Ok so my 97 came with a key FOB but no batteries in it.... I cant figure out what type of batteries it takes, I have asked the ford dealer.... no idea. Can anyone help me out with the battery number? 97 was a strange looking key FOB. Different from every other year. As are the batteries .

I'm guessing you have the peanut shaped remote, I'll try to find mine and get you the battery number. But if I were you I'd ditch that remote, they fail, even if it works now. DL 1616 is the number its a duracell battery.

I have a 97 and mines like all the rest. Whats with the "peanut" sized one? I Have seen a couple in the past and always thought it was aftermarket.

I think the peanut remotes only came with the '97s as original equipment. But a worse remote I don't think exists. A shame too, it's not as bulky as the square ones.

I need new fobs for my car... I have one and its partially broken, it barely holding on to the key chain.

i had a fob for my mountaineer where it was almost broke (only holding with 1 side) i went ahead and broke it off made a template and used JB Weld to shape the part where the key ring goes and then sanded it down to make it look good, drilled a hole for the key ring and painted it. i did that my senior yr in highschool (04) and it finally broke this year but i put the key ring directly on mine so it folds up better in my pockets and it is hard on them if you want any more info on my cheap way to fix this pm me

go to junkyards you can find them in cars sometimes.

I paid $13 for my last remote (on eBay), but the one I got before that was one that I found on the floor of a 98 Mark VIII that had been in the junkyard since the year 2000. This was a couple months ago. That means it'd been sitting in this car in the junkyard for 8 years. The windshield was busted the rear glass was gone, and the driver door was gone. 8 years out in the elements and it actually works better and about 3 times as far away as the one that came with my 98. Only thing is, it's a little discolored. I was able to get the remote, a working HID bulb, and a complete cupholder assembly (really, really dirty, so it looked like poop, but cleaned up almost perfectly) for $35. Not a bad deal! :D That made my week.

Question, If You Replace The Batteries Do You Have To Reprogram The Remote? Or Is Mine Just Busted?

shouldnt have to, I put those 1616 batteries in mine and most of the buttons work, the trunk doesnt tho. Try programming it tho, maybe it got "rest"???

I got a couple fobs from the local pick and pull junkyard for free. The guy running the place said he doesnt normally sell them, and just let me have them. woohoo!

Too bad neither of them work.
