Car wash - Meguires Gold wash, wash and wax in one easy step.

Lexol Vinylex for the rubber and plastics, produces a soft patina shine, not glossy and does not bleach out color.

Lexol leather conditioner and cleaner. The cleaner reminds me of baby shampoo, does and ok job, the conditioner works best, softens and cleans, nice.

Any one else find something good? :D

I am a follower of Meguiars NXT and Gold for quick washes depending on my mood that day.

When I'm going on an all-day cleaning spree, I like to use Mothers California Gold system, it's got like 6 or 7 cleaning steps, and the end results are amazing. If you've never claybarred your car, get a claybar immediately.

I haven't seen it in a while, but one season I used RAIN-X car wash... I know I know, but it actually worked REALLY well. It literally had balls of wax in it that you could see and feel! I was blue with yellow beads of wax floating through it. It left a good protected finish for a week or two after a quick wash.

I also only like foaming tire shine rather than the regular aerosols or liquid wipe ons. The foam doesnt seem to sling onto the car after resting for a while.

I use Adam's products. IMHO, the wax is as good as Zaino and the leather conditioner has a leather smell and really softens the leather.

And you prefer to have swirl marks too. If I can find it I'll show you the video where they test various types of car washes. Not good.
what about the ones where you use the power washer thing and the brush with the soap that comes out of it. they're ok, right? as long as your not too close with the spray? I'm in an apartment now, so no bucket washing anymore for me.

dont use the brush!!

you should be fine as long as your careful. Definitely not as good as a hand wash, but good for washing the salt and dirt off.

Dude, think about it. That brush simply sits on the wall, never gets washed (other than just sprayed off) and removes dirt from DOZENS of cars a day. Can you imagine the dirt that rests in those bristles? Using that brush at the self-serve car wash is like wetsanding your car.

well the one i use doesnt use a brush just a bunch of streams of water does a good jump for winter i usally hand wash everyother week in summer because of my preasure washer

I work at Green Lantern Car Wash so I get a free wash every week lol. And we do not use anything that will make swirl marks on the car thank god and for a basic wash it's only 8 bucks...then i wipe it down any excess water on the car then i use Maguire's quick wax...works good for me.

i use a TOUCH FREE WASH. its like 12 bucks for THE WORKS and the lowest is 8 bucks. i would never go into anything but a TOUCH FREE. and if i dont go to that car wash im out doin it by hand. its winter tho so its like by the end of that day its dirty again lol. fuhkin salt, snow.slush, sand, FUhK WINTER!!!

This might make you think twice about the "touch free" wash. I have to include the entire following article due to copyrighting, but I'll try to bold some important parts.

‘Touch less’ carwash

Proper Technique
A sound understanding of the proper technique and the correct process will produce excellent results even with a mediocre product. A quality product used without the proper surface preparation or application technique will never obtain a satisfactory result. Using the proper methodology (surface preparation, using a quality product, along with the correct application technique) will ensure an excellent result.

Skill Level / Experience
Some methods described may be beyond the capabilities of the average detailer or enthusiast; in this case we strongly encourage the reader to consult a professional detailer or body shop concerning the matters discussed herein.

Liability
The writer assumes no responsibility, expressed or implied, due to misuse or misinterpretation of the information or methods used, or for any vehicle damage or injury that may occur due to the suggestions and information offered.

Product Quality and Technique
Proceed with this in mind; the products you use constitute a very small factor in the equation. Methodology and technique constitute 95%; the reasoning behind the choice of quality products is to eliminate any limiting factors, thus enabling you to place emphasis on technique used. There is no `one correct way' to apply a product; the way detailing products are customized are what each individual finds give them their desired results.

Aesthetics
The aesthetics- of a vehicles appearance is very subjective to say the least, the only best wax or sealant that really matters is what looks 'best' to you. In the final analysis it all come down to; 85% preparation, 5% product, 7% application methodology and the balance is in the ‘guy’ of the beholder

Research
Research others opinions and products, test them and then make an objective decision based upon factual information not marketing hype or brand loyalty. I have always thought that the more facts and information you have at hand the easier it is to judge what information you are being given. After all, how can you fully understand and properly use any product unless you have all the facts?

Detailing products
Should work on their real merits, not ‘smoke and mirrors'. Most importantly - choose carefully whose advice you listen to, and more importantly what advice you act upon, so I would strongly suggest that you verify any information that I or anyone else shares with you.

'Touch less’ carwash
Most so called ‘Touch less’ car washes today use Hydrofluoric acid as a first step, an alkaline to neutralize the acid and then high pressure water to wash cars. Hand washing is MUCH preferred, don’t use an automated car wash period, touch less or not, there are a variety of reasons: You should never, under any circumstances use a car wash that requires you to let another person drive your vehicle onto the ramps or into the wash, notice the disclaimer “No responsibility for damage to customer’s vehicle.”

Local by-laws require car washes to re-claim or recycle water. This means they have two choices.
a) They can collect the water in tanks and pay to truck it away to a recycling centre.

b) They can filter and then recycle the water (dependant on how often the filters are cleaned/changed) will affect how much dirt content there is. Recycled meaning re-use the same water, which may include any road dirt/grit that is not filtered out is used to high-pressure (1,000PSI) wash your vehicle (somewhat similar to sandblasting) the final rinse is usually twice-filtered re-cycled water, this is to give the appearance of a clean surface on the vehicle.

c) To help clean the recycled water they use a chemical like Presidium Orthophosphate (TSP) and have the chemical formula Na3PO4. It is a highly water-soluble ionic salt. Solutions of it dissolved in water have an alkaline pH; this does a great job stripping your wax / sealant. TSP is generally not good for cleaning vehicles because it can corrode metal.
•To remove snow/sand/road dirt and grit without agitation (brushes etc) requires the use of very strong chemical cleaners.
•Probably the most important is that this type of automatic car wash use high-pressure water and strong alkaline detergent to clean vehicles that will strip the wax/polish
•You will also need to renew the vehicles sealant / wax to ensure the paint surface protection on a regular basis to counteract the effects of the harsh detergents.
•Also be aware of those that use ‘wheel guides’ as they will cause scratches / etching to the wheel surfaces, as many wash facilities will not accommodate either the tyre width or the clearance, thus causing sidewall damage
•Vehicle with lower than ‘standard’ suspension (Corvette C6 and other sports cars) should also be aware the wheel guides could cause body damage
•As an alternative especially in colder winter months I would suggest using a waterless vehicle cleaning product Optimum No Rinse (ONR)

If you get a chance, attend a car wash / wax vendors symposiums where they give demonstrations of the different soap products that these type of facilities use, as a Chemical Engineer they scare me. You'll come away a convert to never using them again, on any vehicle.

If you just use the power washer attachment you should be fine, but never ever use that brush.

I won't even use the brush of death on my wheels.

Really the ony time I go to the DIY car wash bay is to presure wash the big stuff off, right before driving home to do an ONR wash.

I agree with the above post about the clay bar. I had never used one until this fall. My 2000 LS V8 had overspray on it from a trailer that my uncle and father were coating for rust prevention. I came home and felt the spray on the windows and paint. My '02 Taurus had pinhead rust spots on it from grinder chips, so I tried the clay bar on the Taurus first. I couldn't believe the results. Did the whole car and then re-waxed it.

I did the hood and trunk on the LS before storing it for the winter. Very please with the Meguiars Clay Bar and Wax.

I bought all of this from Wal-Mart and they also had a Microfiber kit. My wash is now 2 buckets as well. After reading the LS post about detailing last spring, I went to the 2 buckets method and you can see the difference in the bucket.

Good advice last spring/summer from this website paid off this fall.

Are you talking about the one with me and Pektel? I can't believe it was that long ago.
