I'm replacing the factory air filter with the K&N drop in, keeping the orignal factory air box. Anyone do this instead of buying an intake? Any difference frm the factory air filter?

Down the road i'll get the intake with the heat shield, right now don't really want to touch the engine bay so ...

What year you got? I got a 2000 and dropped the KKM in cause I heard of it's high quality and gains.

K&N is good..I might be getting one of their Intake Tubes soon.

Good god!:yourock:

xarruda89x: They are worth buying if you are keeping it stock.

You can also do the mod on here where you cut the bottom of the box out or cheese grade it/drill holes all over it. But thats if you are willing. Sounds like you want it stock for warranty issues maybe?

I figured, Im sure you might know but they cant do anything about it unless it is a direct result of any issue you want covered.

Just thought I would put that in the air again:D

yeah i got 3 years left of warranty.

My CAI didn't affect my warrenty at all. Then again I got a retarded aftermarket warrenty and Just glad I only had to pay 2500 bucks on a 8000-9000 dollar job on putting in a new engine (Last owner :q:q:q:qed it up and the 4-6 pistons blew...on a damn roadtrip of all things!)

I got warranty all over the car, i bought it at Ford Dec 07' .. Even the wheels and tires are insured. Um, the only problems I've had that been coverd was the basic known problems VGS, Coils etc.

Once warranty is over i'm getting a new car.

I'm riding it out. i've had some much repairs covered by my Warrenty and plus I got a NEW engine in the summer of 07. So i'm good...plus the only thing I'd bump up from my car is a Jag (XKR more likely) or a very good german car, or if Lincoln puts out a sports car.......the MKS was gonna be the new LS but turned out to be a slowpoke

Yes i believe its coming out later this year .. The coupe is the LS replacement. 2010 MKT i believe ? Its on youtube.

So how would you get 5 to 10 HP from the KKM CAI compared to getting a KN&N filter. To me thats decent gain compared to the price.

Well first the KKM is not a CAI its just a sports/performance type intake. ( no restrictions )

Second we are talking about the stock type filter for the stock box when talking about the K&N in this specific discussion not the non restricted kit.

Right sorry, i was comparing the KKM to the stock box filter exchange KN&N filter..

So the KKM is more of a full intake and by removing the stock box you gain that much more in HP? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just trying to figure out how gain gain that much.

+1

Your talking a 3-5 hp gain with the drop in K&N filter with a Little more throaty sound.

A K&N FIPK on a 2nd gen gain in about 16 hp.

Sort of. It depends on what you are talking of when you say KKM. You have the adapter and cone only and then you have the full out kit with both mentioned and the tube. The stock tube also has restrictions on it but not much.

When you open that filter up by getting rid of the box you get rid of a load of restriction on air flow.

Ok so with the drop in filter you get 3-5 HP gain

and with the KKM intake you get an average of 5-10 due to no restriction such as the box from the stock filter?

Sorry was helping a customer and didnt type fast enough-- seen ur post above

Not to mention the lift off of my car is much more excellent thanks to the KKM. I dunno..it feels more than 5-10HP I saw some dynos back over the summer that showed it got up to 25HP gain. I think it was on Streetfire.com

Not with only a KKM.

The hp claims are starting to get just plain outrageous using a butt dyno.

Maybe it had one of those Tornado gas savers like his friends Tundra:rolleyes:

Pete, did it the LS on the dyno happen to squeal as he got off the gas?

Maybe with two decals.

That was not a squeal it was a fart.....a lumpy one at that.

Haha very funny, I'd never buy a tornado for my car. I am buying an intake tube though.

As far as the Dyno I don't know, I saw the charts but also looks as though the guy had Magnaflow exhaust on it. It had the 1st Gen LS vs the 2nd Gen LS in graphs that compared torque and hp.

And my buddy's Tundra squeels after take off (when you left off the gas, whatever) Kinda like the sound you get when you let a little bit of air out of a balloon.
