Why does this car hate me?? Why????? So last night I go to ATCO, our local drag strip to run my 94 and I run a 15.76@90 and a 16.0@89....WHAT THE :q:q:q:q!!!!!!!!!! How can my car be slower than a bone stock mark?? ok so i'll give yous the run down, maybe someone can help me figure this out

conditions: run1 64 degrees
run 2 53 degrees

both runs i had ample coll time (about an hour and a half)

now the car, 94 mark VIII, 144,000 miles, trans has 12k on it J mod done, LMS chip, custom ram air, thir cat eliminated, x pipe, 2 1/2 mandrel bent true duals with magna pack mufflers, ford racing wires, autolite 764 plugs gapped a .54 (tune up has like 900 miles on it) Car was sea foamed about a month ago as well.....check and IMRC's are working. rear tires 30psi, fronts 38psi, car has coil springs


Run 1: Flashed the convertor, left it in D with the over drive off

Run 2: launched it at 1400rpm, shifted at 6400 rpm

WHAT THE HELL!!!!! Why is my car considerably slower than a bone stock mark viii????
 
how much gas was in the car?

your MPH is really low..and your 60' is really high..
the 60' indicates your run was "crap" from the beginning
your MPH indicates that your car is "down on power".

agreed timeslips don't lie.......i forgot to list the fuel.....car has between a half and 1/4 tank...sunoco ultimate 93
 
First of all, a 2.3 60 foot time is not terrible but it's not hooking like you think it is. You should be able to do a 2.2 60 foot time with your mods. I think the most likely thing is your fuel pump is weak. With 144,000 miles I wouldn't even bother checking fuel pressure. Get a Walbro 255lph, they are cheap and work great on a gen 1. You are down a good 5mph which is equivelent to 50 horsepower! How does the car feel at WOT? Another thing I would check is the chip. Try to run it without the chip and see how it feels. But I would say the fuel pump is the most likely candidate...

but I do disagree about the 60 foot, it's terrible..sucks and about a whole car length behind a stock mark 8.. doesnt sound like much, but when a stock car is a whole CAR LENGTH AHEAD in SIXTY FEET.. that's awful.
 
I'm putting money on a bad fuel pump and bad IMRC's.... the fuel pump is killing you all the way around, and its not going to pull worth :q:q:q:q if the IMRC's don't open.
 
With the way things have gone for you with that car, you should feel great that it didn't leave you stranded at the track. :D
 
well I have to say, his RT's were consistant.
Consistantly "slow" but that isn't a bad thing.

I've often told people if you can bring me consistantly slow RT's that "we can fix that"..

Bring me 4-5 different RT's and that's much harder to fix, but not impossible to fix. just requires much more work.

SO.. rich, ALL is not lost...

the first part of your run is great (from a beginners standpoint)
the rest of the numbers suck, but that is not an insurmountable either

how much work is it to replace a fuel pump? i think mine might be on the way out because i get that rotten egg smell after some 'spirited' driving
 
when you replaced the pump did you replace or reuse that little rubber hose?
 
Get a fuel pressure reading... see if it up to snuff regardless of it is new or not... also check that your IMRC's are working.
 
Rich I think the chip needs to come out and run without. Then get a sniper tuner with chip cause eveyrbody knows their the best and fastest. BRING IT! Are you still running 3.07 gears if so thats not helping and how much stuff was in the trunk. When I first got my mark I ran high 14's then for a year or so all my mods slowed it except the nitrous. I feel your pain.

to strike a win light when both cars run the same number,
zero effect on MPH/ET.

Im not up on Mark VIII's stock times but I do a lot of drag
racing, anything over 2.3 sixty* foot is tire smoking or a
pooch out of the whole. The ending MPH and ET say it laid
down the whole length of the track, begining to end.

Had the rear tires lit up (no traction) you would record the
best MPH the car is capable at the end of the track but the
ET would suck. Mild bogging but hooked and running well
you stand a chance of running your best ET but low MPH.
This is why two identicle cars but one manual and one
stick will out MPH and ET each other, the stick car will
spin and high MPH while the auto will better ET with slow
MPH.


*stock RWD car mildly brake stood to get motor up towards
HP peak but not enough to spin tires.

I had the chip out for a while and the car felt doggy.....14's is alot better than 16.0...lol.....as for the gears, yep, 3.07's, trunk...my normal empty trunk....maybe i'll run it without he chip and see how it runs....Geno's chip is pretty good tho, I doubt Its making my car 1 second slower than it should be, but it is somewhere to start

If you have a new fuel pump I must say the only thing that could be making your car so slow is the IMRC's not opening or your motor is down on compression...
I checked the IMRC's and they did work when i pulled the hose off of them.....when i went to e town april 4th, I had everything ready to go on the car.........hate to say it, but i think my motor is tired......everything is working good....its my only explanation.....BTW what should the fuel pressure be? maybe there's hope :)



BTW I drove my bro's 95 today....his car has 96k, all original, only thing is a k&n filter.....his car would mop the floor with mine with all my mods!!
 
Fuel pressure should be 40-45psi at WOT. Get a compression check done to see if your motor is truly tired...
 
You need to do the following...

Return the car as close to stock as you reasonably can.
Check Fuel Pressure at WOT under load
Check Compression

Go run the car stock...

What is "Custom Ram Air"? You might want to start here, and go back to stock.

What is "Custom Ram Air"? You might want to start here, and go back to stock.

basically i took off the air silencers, the end of the bottom air silencer (the part that flares out) i have that reversed going into the bottom of my air box, the other end of that is a 3"?? tube running out to the end of the bumper with a scoop i had...here is a pic.....
