Hi,

Last week I bought a 2000 LS off my friend. I have always liked the styling/performance of these cars and the company I previously worked for made the control arms. A while back I helped my friend service this car, and we found that it needs a few things done (which i will post on a different thread as I have some questions) but the car runs and drives fine. He purchased it new in 2000. He recently lost his job and had to move, so he offered to sell me the car for next to nothing so he did not have to move the car, and I took it.

I would like to get a repair manual for it ( chiltons, haynes etc) Just wondering if anybody had a suggestion on which one to get and where. Also wondering if this engine has a timing belt or chain that needs replaced at certain intervals?

It has a chain. Chains are not replaced as a preventative measure since they usually give warning long before failure. However, it does seem that the gen I chain tensioners do sometimes fail. You may want to take the valve covers off and have a look at them.

I personally think that Chiltons or Haynes are pretty much useless. You can get the factory service manual from e-bay or here:

Note that you can get the printed manual, or on-line access for different time periods. On-line may be better since you can get the TSBs that way too.

Welcome to the forum!

Both the v6 and v8 have chain driven cams. In your post about the engine you need to tell us if you have the v6 or v8 and if you have the v6 whether it is a automatic or manual transmission.
Repair manuals can be found for a good pice on ebay. They are often old ford service manuals.

Thanks for the replys guys.
The engine is a v8 3.9 with auto trans.

I will be taking the valve covers off to replace the seals, there is some oil leaking into the spark plug holes so will that be the time to check the condition of the tensioners?

I found this book on ebay, is this what i would need to help with repairs/diagnostics? Is this what you guys are referring to as the factory service manual? What is a TSB?
