just bought a 2005 lincoln LS. what is this?

Well, the 02 is different than the 05 (over 500 changes), but it is pretty similar in terms of the radio. You will want the silver double din adapter instead of the black one. The wiring harnesses that you need are different, and removal is the lower trim is a little different.

05lsv8guy,

I may just take you up on that offer very soon!!!

is it possible to add bluetooth to the 6 disk factory radio that works on all speakers? i dont mind front speakers only for phone calls but when i want to use the bluetooth for music, i want all my speakers to work. not sure if i want to give up the factory look for the stereo in the dash.

In theory, it seems like an easy concept to have a bluetooth unit that would feed signal thru an aux or cd player aux input, but i am not sure if they make that, nor do i remmber what the back of my radio looked like to remember if it had aux ports of some kind lol

I was suprised at how factory the install looks of the double din, and if you have some patience i bet u could find a HU that has a similar look to the THX Nav unit that came in these cars, and to be extra fooled if the HU is black mask off the screen and parts that move, and find a similar silver and spray the face plate to look like the THX just a thought.
Final twist, pick a HU that has a customizable splash screen and find a THX splash screen just for extra cool factor. The appradio doesnt spash screen but i found cool wallpapers for it on avic411.com, i bet they even have the THX

well kinda, Isimple makes some hardwired FM modulator systems that work with bluetooth for audio and hands free that will work with every radio.

dont really like how unintegrated it is it terms of how it functions. for instance, say you listing to pandora on your phone, then a phone call comes in, all you have to do to answer it is hit a little button on the dash. BUT say your listing to a CD when a call comes in, you then need to switch the source over to radio, then hit the correct preset (if it's not on the right channel) and then hit a button on the dash. so there is a lot of inconsistencies that can be a pain when driving

there is just really no contest to how well and easy a good aftermarket radio will function with bluetooth integrated right in, and there are plenty of units that look just as well as the OEM nav system in the dash. all the lights color matched to the dash, factory SW controls working. more than a few people would think the car came with it.

back in the early and mid 90's i worked on the side installing systems in cars, so i am not oblivious to how things work. With that said, i just did the stereo in an 03 eclipse with the infinity system and it was a p.i.m.a!!! ended up taking me 6 hours to switch head units and run the mic all because the metra harness had no power on the blue wire. wtf???

I'm a little nervous about taking on the LS install after reading some of the threads here because i dont know anything about adding resistors to lines and stuff like that. i also have no idea how to make steering wheel controls work. never had that stuff back in my day.

well, i took the plunge. placed my order with crutchfield this morning. lets hope this install goes well!

Using a PIE adapter to provide the AUX input (stock 6 disk changer), I have one of THESE and it works great for Bluetooth Stereo streaming (and does play through all speakers on my setup.)

Side Note: I just read some of the reviews and I can say that I have had zero issues in the 13mo since I bought it, which was just to "hold me over" until I talked myself into an AppRadio. To date, I still have not replaced the deck.

update.....

my head unit install went pretty well. my choice of stereo made the job a bit tough because of an extra box that gives the stereo the ability to mirror my phone. The depth of the stereo opening made it tough to get everything to fit, but it went in there somehow. i wasnt patient enough to wait for the silver faceplate i ordered seperate of my system, so i painted a black one silver to use for now. color is off a little but i can live with it. If the silver one comes, and is an exact match i will put it in.

ill post pictures when i get the car cleaned up and a nice wax job on the car.

by the way, if anyone wants to see a video of a 2005 Lincoln LS car stereo removal, i can post it. I started to make a video of the whole job, but ended up quiting when i got to the wiring of the new stereo.
