No codes other than current issue below
No vacuum leaks (fixed one recently while looking)
battery and alternator: less than one year and two years respectively
Fuel Pump, Filters( intank and out) Relay, Fuses; all replaced less than 12 months ago
Cats 1 is 11 months old, one is 1 month old. New Catalyst sensor in youngest cat

Issue:

OBD-II Trouble Code: P0102 Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input

Which makes sense its unplugged, the issue is that when I plug it in and put the car in gear it dies. Unplugged idles fine drives fine. If I rev it a bit and put in gear when RPMs are higher it will sometimes be okay.

tested:
New MAF about 1.45 years ago
Tried cleaning MAF
Tested wiring Ground Is good, has power to the maf.

I am not sure how to test the two wires going to the Plug on the Computer, I assume I would do a resistance test if I can get the DMM leads to reach and then if I get an open circuit then I need to run new wire, or correct short.

However as it is like 15 degrees out I don't feel like taking this all apart to find out just yet.

Question:

Is there anything else that you can think that would cause the car to shut down when the MAF is plugged in and put in gear( Reverse or drive)

All I am thinking of is an air leak or a dirty MAF.

No idea if Lincoln MAFs are as sensitive about it but if you're a little too liberal with the spray cleaner and any of it soaks down into the housing where the sensor physically connects to the housing they can be damaged and have to be replaced.

Question, do you run a K&N air filter, and was it recently cleaned? An overoiled K&N will foul out the MAF as well.

I had the lady bug wing on my MAF. IN my case the car would start to a high idle for 2 sec and die right away. When I tried to hit the throttle when it would start the rpms would NOT go up. In my case the throttle seemed to have NO effect on the running of the car. The dirty or my case blocked sensor would only start, idle up and then die.

And in OP's post he has already cleaned the MAF sensor, unless he used some harmful cleaner and hurt it I would look to a bad sensor as aposed to dirty.

I do not clean my filter, I wash it and let dry over night, however I will inspect the mad closely

A MAF is a heating element, a temp probe, and a processing ckt. The probe reads the temp to determine how much current is needed to keep the element hot. More airflow cools the element and requires more current to heat it up.

Low input to me says the air flow orifice is blocked, limited air flow requires less current to keep it hot. Possible internal electrical damage on the MAF. I do not suspect the wiring as the puter know when it's plugged in.

I'd parking lot swap it out with a junk yard one.

That's an electrical code for a circuit out of voltage range. It's there because he unplugged the sensor. If he could leave it plugged in and the engine would run, it would go away. Since he can't, we have to ignore that one for now.

Okay, so if I plug it in clear the code and then let it idle perhaps revving a bit, I should not get a code? Well either way I will test and let you know what happens. Hopefully I get some code so I know where to look, it's the strangest thing how it idles fine when plugged but once you put it gear, shuts off...

Thanks guys for the help.

just curious, what are you using to clean the MAF?

well, I haven't tried yet, since I first had the issue, but I used cnc I think is the brand Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner, I didn't spray much of it,

sounds kinda similar to mine. i did end up finding some bare wire on the green wire going to my maf.

Okay so update time

Pulled the maf and looked at it under the microscope and there was some odd fiber on the element, removed it with a bit of air. Then hit it with a bit of ClC cleaner let dry and reinstalled. Then cleared the code and started the car.

The car started right up and when put in gear it died again, after though I let it "warm" up and put it in gear and it was fine and derives fine however te same code popped up as when its unplugged, so I am thinking there is a break in one of the signal wires.

Did you clear the codes so that you know this is code is really from now and not from before?
It was trying to compensate for the bad MAF readings before. It will take it a little while to readjust to the cleaned MAF.

Yeah I used my scanner to delete the code, I then re scanned before taking the test drive to make sure it was not still the previous, thinking I may need to follow the wires

Yes, either the wiring or the MAF sensor itself.
