jbl stereo idea

From what i've found out the jbl amp has a specific x-over point for the 5x7's. More then likely to eliminate higher frequencies. I want to replace the 5x7's with aftermarket units but only if they'll play higher freq's..(or both)
Would adding a "Bass blocker" inline allow the speaker to play just higher freq's?

Also, When adding new speakers, do they play both high and low or just low due to the amps built in non adj x-over?

I would have to say just low... just cause that's what they're there for... the tweeters are for the highs and the 5x's are for the lows... kinda sux cause they didn't factor in the whole bandwith so we're missing a little bit... adding bass blockers pretty much just eliminates the lower frequency which in theory would eliminate almost all the sound... probably not but probably wouldn't sound good anyways... I'd get a new amp. and some crossovers

not to mention that the 5x7's on each side of the car are wired in series and the tweeters are all separate, so just save up and do it all and just rewire everything

well i'm trying to keep it simple with this car..

In my marquis is were the major stereo is. 3 12" 07 type r's with a modded mtx 1501d (1900 rms) @ .7ohm's , comps and fosgate 800.4 , pioneer preimer ect......


so if i just replace the 5x7's with 2 way's they'll still just be playing mids and no highs even with addition to the tweeter?

Also what ohm are the tweeters? i busted out the dmm and it read 60 i beleive..Seems kinda high and not very efficent..

This is the way I was taught (it's been a while though so take it with a grain of salt):

Small speakers don't handle low frequencies well, that's why you want crossovers to filter out the low frequencies.

Larger speakers aren't very good for high frequencies, that's why you want crossovers to filter out the high frequencies.

Speakers are rated using impedance which depends on frequency and reactance (capacitive and inductive). You can't measure impedance with a Volt Ohm meter. If you measure the speaker with an ohmmeter, all you are measuring is the resistance of the voice coil.

I have alpine type S's for the 5x7s with the stock wires, amp, deck then a 10" infinity perfect sub w/infinity amp and cap, stock tweeters I love it and have had many others like the set up
