Is this bad for the crank?

I had it balanced, and was just wondering if the spot would have any effect on it. It had nicks in this area, and is very close to the end of the circle, where it was drilled, it needed to be smoothed out, so there is this groove now. Would the hurt the crank at all? Just being paranoid! It's not as bad as it looks, just the angle it was taken at, to give you an idea.

Well, they ground down the counterweights, I think they drilled holes, but they guy said they didn't like to do that. I got the crank from him, so I have no idea what it looked like before. He is well known around the area though, and people recommend him. His shop is full of high performance vehicles, and he is always busy.

You have no worries there.

Oh, thank goodness. I sure hope not lol. I was like oh man, hope that doesn't mess anything up at all! Stress reliever lol.

Most all cranks are made with heavier bobweights. The thought is its easier and cheaper to drill to get assembly to balance then to add weight. To add weight is pricey with the addition of "heavy metal".

Yea, he said Mallory is very expensive, and is really only necessary when you knife edge a crank because you are taking so much off. Then again, I do believe he said he doesn't use it, when he knife edges cranks. So, not sure what he is doing there.

Its in no way ONLY used when knife edging cranks.
