Is there a way to tell if an 03+ cluster is from a V6 or V8

The CEL came on and my mechanic traced it down to the instrument cluster.
I had bought another 03+ cluster on ebay advertised as from a V8.
I put a metric faceplate from a gen 1 car as I like the look better.
The steering wheel hides the numbers and with this metric one the mph is below and easily seen with the wheel tilted down.
So we put cluster in today and the lights came on with the key as well as the speedo doing its sweep as it does when a cluster is reinstalled.
Everything seems to work however the car won't start.
Does it have to be "mated" to the car to work or is there something wrong keeping the car from starting.
If it does need repair I found this place

Any help here would be appreciated.

please correct me if im wrong, but a V6 doesnt have the digital info center on the right side

Well it has the LEDs behind the screen.
A member on LLSOC asked if my mechanic had disconnected the battery because if not the PATS may have come on and prevented the car from starting.
We didn't check if the info display was working when the rest of the cluster fired up.

you need to have your mechanic do a pats reset and reprogram the new cluster to the car. it can only be done through Fords Service software.

I know it will beep in reverse and at 70 mph and faster if it's not married to the car or so I have read here and on LLSOC.
I took the needles off and put the 02 ones on after changing the face plate and want to make sure it will work properly before taking it to the dealer for what it costs to have them do work.
Also want to see if the CEL will stay off with a new cluster.

I know at least on the 03+ the car will not start at all unless its married to the rest of the car. The beeping might be GEN1 specific.

Would the car start if we put the key in the on position and then jumped the solenoid with a skrewdriver from underneath?

Doubt it, With the cluster not being programmed to the car it is out of the network. If all the other modules can not communicate through the cluster they will not let the car function.

I'm going to get a second diagnosis from a ford dealer.
This CEL may be a fuel module or bad sensor.
If that's the case I'll take the needles and face plate off the cluster pictured above and put it into my original which is already mated to the car.

Thanks for all the help guys.

ok i have a 2000 lincoln ls... someone had a auto mate remote start put in the car... were everything is located, it looks like the cluster came out to install it. so because my cluster has been removed could thtat be way I get a warning chime with no lights?? even if they used the same cluster does it have to be reprgrammed to the car agAIN!
