Is there a way to change the digital odometer #'s using my old odo chip?

My Instrument cluster circuit board completely died, so I replaced the circuit board with that from a parts car....only problem is my car now reads nearly exactly 10k higher, 118k vs the 108k the car has.

Does anyone know how to change this? Is there a "chip" on the back that holds the memory for this that can be swapped onto the new board?

I certainly don't plan dying with the car....

it's pretty simple...car registers 10k more...some people may not give a hoot, and if I was closer to 200k then I wouldn't either, but I don't drive a lot, as I have a company vehicle...so 3000-4000 miles a year, it would stay pretty low miles for a long time....it bugs the crap out of me.

In the end, I'll live with it, whatever I'm over it. However, I like to figure things out and fix things...somewhere on that motherboard is a chip that retains my miles...everything can be fixed, that's my attitude

Can't say I blame you. I wouldn't want the car showing 10k more miles than what's really on it either. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix that. I wonder if it's similar to the way the old mid-80's Corvettes were. On those, you could just pop the odometer out of one digital dash and pop it into another without changing the original mileage reading. Somebody must know. I've never had the instrument cluster out of mine so I haven't the foggiest clue. But it would be a good thing to know for future reference.

Well 10k is not much on an old Mark. It will not affect the value and you can of course simply disclose it. Its no different then replacing some expensive major components. You can tell a buyer they are new, but overall it will not impact the price.

if you take the cluster apart, you can remove the digital pc board where the mileage displays but simply removing the 2 screws that secure it to the cluster and unplug the small ribbon harness. then do the same to the cluster you want the digital board from, and plug the board into the cluster you wish to use. its very simple to take the cluster apart and goes back together just as simple.

OK, here is what I had...excuse the middle finger please, I was not in a good mood that night

two boards, as you discuss. The main board that you see is the one that went out on my cluster. The ODO board as you discussed is inside the cluster right behind the gauge panel...

all I did is swap this large main board, and I left the original board with odo display in my cluster. The mileage crossed over with this large board, even though the smaller odo board remained...am I doing it wrong?

I kept all my original cluster, and just swapped this board pictured below. The mileage seems to actually be pictured on the circuit board below, and unfortunately that's what blew. In the end, I'm ok with it, but I had to ask of course just to see if I could do it

you can swap over the whole larger board thats fine too, i just thought you wanted to change only the little mileage screen board thats why i said it the way i did, but yes you can take the whole entire board from one cluster and swap it over without having to remove the actual mileage screen board.

Can't quite online auto forums cold turkey.

I sold my maquis over a year ago and I still visit cv.net from time to time. :) Hell of alot more active than Mark boards :(

10k or 200k mark VIII.... for sale for $999.99

so does it matter? 10k I do in a month, if I feel good after a hangover.

i didnt say i was leaving lvc i just said i wont be around as much as i used to. i still own a mark VIII.

the mileage screen board is not the unit that contains the miles...oddly enough. the larger board contains the memory for the miles, so in my case, swapping the mileage screen board won't work...that's ok though..at this point my entire seat is apart and non functional, so I've got to do something about seat tracks so I can even drive the car.

well you are not correct there. i just did this in my 97 lsc, i took a cluster i had plus the cluster that came with the car, the one that came with the car had white face gauges, i removed only the mileage display screen off the white face cluster, and swapped in the screen from another cluster and the mileage changed to the one i swapped in, so take that for what its worth. i did this last month so its fresh in my head.
