I'm pretty confused about if this works or not, and am hoping I can get clarification.

One thread says I can buy a PIE adapter, that will interface with my currently plugged-in adapter, and let me tap my CD button twice to get to the "DJ" option - but my car doesn't do that double press of the CD button thing, so I don't think it will work.

So my main question is this-

Can I completely disconnect the 6-disc in-dash changer, and use something like http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piefrdnaux100.html to hook up my iPod? If this isn't the correct piece, is there a better one?

I am not looking to control the iPod through the radio or anything like that (I will mount it on the dash).

I hope this hasn't been covered, because I did a search and looked through every iPod thread. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the response.

I checked out both those threads before, and couldn't find a straight answer about disconnecting the 6-disc in-dash changer to hook up an iPod - this post is interesting http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showpost.php?p=344424&postcount=8

- but I guess I am confused about the wording "External cd changer controls -- ability to control a factory cd changer ." -does this mean if I swap out the 20 pin plug from the stock setup and replace it with one of these adapters it will work?

Also, the product page for that item says this- "Not compatible with 2003-04 (6-disc in-dash) Changer radios that are not CD Changer capable." so I am not sure if any items in those two threads will work for me.

Factory CD changer means it's external to the head unit. The first gen LS had them in the glove compartment. I don't believe that there's anything out there that will work. I've looked into it myself having an '03 and just gave up.

So I've done more searching for a solution, and I found this product - http://www.theretailbridge.com/posts/view/?instance_id=41

It seems like it will work, I found all the parts I need (harness + rca cables to work with this device) here http://www.audiooutfitter.com/xiad01/axxess/p703889.html

I think I'm going to order the parts today. I will report back any success or failure.

Parts I'm buying:
Axxess - XIAD01 - IPOD INTERFACE FOR DOMES
Axxess - XIAHRCA - RCA TO AXXESS INTERFACE
METRA - XIAH-FD1 - 98-03 Select Ford Specific Harness for XIA-D01
