I've seen worse...

To this day my favorite find is the actual Ace Bandage being used to tie the caliper on the front of a 01 Malibu

Camber eccentric is classic!

Look at all that rust under there though. :( Poor Mark.

Sapper always sends me the best pics from his work. I almost peed when he sent me that Malibu one. Or the Explorer thats brake rotor was ONLY fins with no smooth face.... or the one with the rear rotar as thin as a sheet of paper and no longer attached to the center section....... or the car with vice grips on its brake line cause that whell "made noise when braking"

So today my next door neighbor asks for help with his wife's 2002 Mercury Cougar. He wanted to change both front LCA's (ball joints) and one of the half shafts.

I get it up on the lift and start to look around, as he begins to tell me a story about the time they took it to the local AAMCO a couple of years ago to get some transmission work done and the problems that they had there.

On this car, the front sub-frame that supports both the engine and the front suspension (much like the K-Member on a Mark VIII), is bolted to the unibody with 4 14mm bolts.

What I find is that the two rear bolts are in and tight, the left front bolt was so loose that there was a 1/2" gap between the sub-frame and the body (and the bolt was bent), and the right front bolt was missing entirely!

She's been driving it this way for almost two years now, I'm surprised she wasn't in an accident!

So I got the bent bolt out (naturally, the captured nut spun), machined a couple of large special washers that needed to go between the new forward bolts (I had some suitable replacements) and the sub-frame bushings, replaced his parts, and sent him away safe and happy. :)
