So I recently paid to have my valve cover gaskets replaced because they were leaking, and then today I noticed that there's a pretty extensive leak coming from both of my variable valve solenoids ... My experience as a DIYer is pretty low, but I'm excellent at following directions and diagrams

Does anyone have any step by step directions to remove the valve covers? I'm confident that I can replace the O- ring and solenoid once it's off, but I'm a little apprehensive about it

Also, will taking the valve cover off somehow hurt the valve cover gaskets that are on there?

You do not remove the valve covers to replace those two o-rings. Just unplug the electrical connector and then pull the old seal up and push the new seal down. It really is as simple as that. Here are the seals:

At least on the drivers side. I read that you have to removed the egr from the strut tower with those two 13mm bolts so that it's completely out of the way.

Theres something else that needs to move. I'll see if I can find it.

Found it..... It's in the Tech Section

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/tech/Lincoln-LS/Valve_Cover_Seal_Inspection/Valve-Cover-Seal.htm

That covers the 1st gen. He has a 2nd gen. The 2nd gen is: http://deneau.info/ls/s6x~us~en~file=s6x31007.htm~gen~ref.htm and http://deneau.info/ls/s6x~us~en~file=s6x31008.htm~gen~ref.htm

However, you do not remove the valve covers to replace the two seals he needs to replace.

I forgot to mention that i have the v8 engine

If I don't have to remove the valve covers to replace the gasket, do i have to remove it if I want to actually replace the solenoid? I assumed it was held in by a bolt

Solenoid for what exactly?

No sh!t! I'm leaking a bit at that solenoid on my 04 as well.

Seriously, one could just pull the old O ring up and out, then push new one down. ??? you kid me not ???

I honestly though it needed to come apart from the inside. Similar like the oil fill neck gasket.

Great new +1 Joe

I did too, but it doesn't. When you get the new seal, it will be very clear to you. I would have changed them sooner too.
