I have a '00 v6 LS, but I don't have the onboard information center i.e. the gas mileage, oil life, battery life computer. I was wondering if it is possible to install one of these aftermarket. If anyone has done this, or knows if it can be done I would appreciate any info leading me in the right direction.

i wanted to do this a long time ago, but if i remember right, people were steering me away from the idea... i forgot why, maybe cause i cudnt find the parts or its just too expensive... others will give their opinions...

wouldn't that require a new guage cluster at the very least? I'd think that and then you'd have to get it reprogrammed to talk to your pcm. sounds like a lot of $$$ for that.

It would require at least a new gauge cluster from a V8. It would have to be programmed by a dealer (or, possibly, one of those show-offs with an NGS tester), but the possibility of having a V8 instrument panel programmed for a V6 is questionable at best. I'm betting that it would have to be done by a dealer; the gauge cluster holds the mileage data (eg, the odometer), so this is not likely to be something that just anyone can do. Just think of all the regulatory headaches involved.

Oh, and lets not forget the wiring harnesses needed, since you don't have the message center controls...

and a PCM - IIRC - the V6 PCMs are not compatible with the V8, and do not have the output to the message center and input from the console buttons....
