Having an extra IAC that did not work correctly, I decided to cut it open with my dremel tool to see what is inside. Found it was just another piston solenoid, spring loaded. You cannot repair the unit, it is factory press covered. Looks very similar to the DCCV valve solenoid. Same problem with this one as the DCCV, gunk getting into the piston area. Carbon from the intake found its way up the main shaft into the piston area. Piston was scratched and coated with black carbon. I guess when the shaft seals gap from age the carbon has a way to enter the piston chamber and bugger the thing up. The price has been coming down to less than $30 for these things, so just toss the old one.
