Well, after changing the oil in the Ls this last week, it has a pretty nice knock going on in the bottom end.

Looking into just pulling the motor and tranny at once and installing a used motor and tranny, and going with it

my question, is this the best way to do it with cost and time? Need input
(I am a pushrod guy, these dang overhead can engines, I know absolutly nothing about them)

Thanks for any info needed, even "You are crazy" :)

The engine and trans are designed to be dropped out from underneath by unbolting the k-member.
It can be taken out the top with a lot of removing stuff and struggling.
If you have access to a lift it will make it a lot easier if you take it out the bottom.

I was thinking about it but if I would I have to pretty much give away the car and I would not get another Ls ( this is my second). I really like the cars but I am not having much luck on them. This one I have completly replaced all suspension parts, coils, battery, alternator(last week) new tires poweredcoated rims new tint, chin spoiler and new headlights. All this within the last 6 months. It is a nice car about the way that I like it. If I can find a motorand tranny I would rather replace it and not look back just keep driving it

I was wondering by looking at it if it was easier to take it from the bottom

anyone know what a motor or a motor/ tranny combo would go for?

I got an extra almost new 05 engine for 600.00 I found on ebay.

Wow! That's an awsome deal.

I bought a LS 6 months ago. It needs work and I'm going to be doing the same to it. I'm not replacing the transmission, just the engine. Is your transmission bad? Why are you replacing it.
I've been doing some research and the best deal I found on an engine was New in create 3.9 V8 for $2,999.00 on eBay. With the used engines, the price varies with the milage. The adverage I've seen is between $1,100 to $1,600. transmissions, depending on milage, is $500 to $1,400.

I bought this engine as a spare in case I blow the original engine with the turbo kit I have.
The ebay guy was an indoor wrecker that got the engine with a bunch of others on some deal.
It was something outside his usual stuff.
He turned out to be local so we bypassed ebay and I took it away in my pickup.
It was a great score.
He said something about being used in a crash test and having less than 20,000 miles.
It looks amazingly new and clean more like 3000 miles.
I didn't need it but it and the price was so good I couldn't pass it up.
Just having it for the parts is good insurance.
Ultimately if I don't eventually need it I can sell it.
Was going to put on the turbo last year but I injured my thumb bad enough to make that not possible.
I've recovered now but probably won't put on the turbo till next year.
This year I just got my s/c 97 383 LT-1 M6 Camaro vert back on the road and am thrilling myself with that.
