As I've said before I'm in the longer version of the process of swapping a mark VIII motor into my thunderbird. I was tearing apart the top-end of my 93 mark motor yesterday to clean my imrc's but when I took out the fuel injectors all of bank 1's pintle caps broke, and all of bank 2's are cracked.

All I was left with on the ones that broke completely were the brim of the top hat shape (washer) that the pintle caps are. Upon removing the intake manifold and IMRC's I was able to locate that 3 of the 4 completely broken off pieces of pintle caps were on the back side of the intake valves. I was able to retrieve all 3 that I located and remove them with some long medical like forceps and a pick. Unfortunately 1 of the 4 still remains lost, it's not on the back side of any of the valves, I can't tell for sure that it has been that way for a while or if my removing it caused that one to break off as well but it's gone.

My uncle-in-law is an ase master mechanic and said I'm making a big thing over nothing and that in all actuality if the caps broke like that than they are brittle enough that they wont cause any damage, they will either melt away or shatter into pieces and exit out the exhaust.

I just wanted to know what everyone's take was on this. I ordered a complete injector rebuild kit from mr injector. Which comes with new filters, pintle caps, o-rings, and spacers. I plan to rebuild all 8 but just wanted to know what everyone elses take is on the missing one.

On an up note. At least my IMRC's are clean lol.

Nothing to fear IMHO.

I have not had good luck with rebuilt injectors though. If it were me, I'd buy new FRPP injectors. It's just not worth the hassle when one or more rebuilt injectors doesn't work after a swap.

Well I'm glad someone else thinks it will be ok as well. Also I decided this morning against the mr injector kit. I bought 8 service kits at pepboys instead it was cheaper than the other kit with shipping and I got them all today so no waiting game either. The kits I picked up comes with new caps and new orings I fear that if I mess with the injector internal filters I'll end up screwing something up big time lol. So basically they worked before and should work the same or better after new caps and orings. If it were in the budget I'd pick up new injectors probably some rediculously high lb rate so I'd never out grow them like 42's or higher but they aren't in the budget. That's money for the remaining complete regasket and exhaust mods.

If the injectors are known to be good, new "O"-rings and caps are all you really need unless you plan on upgrading due to mods.
