Info center...

I have a 02 LS8 and not sure if I’m missing something here. Car isn’t on the road yet but have a question about the info center. I click the buttons and nothing shows up anywhere. Where is that info suppose to display? I looked at the instrument panel and there is only the mileage to the left and then a center and right display but there only idiot lights there. Plus a couple more idiot lights up top. So does this car have different vents or was the instrument panel replaced? The wires are connected behind the vent buttons.

Lower Right of cluster.. Distance to Empty / Average MPG since Reset.. If you press Status, you'll get alot of crap.. Engine Temp OK, Washer Fluid Level OK, all kinds of light bulb checks, tells you if doors or the trunk are open... and Advance Trac OK lol.. there might be more.

That’s not on my cluster so I guess there is a new speedo in my car. Was it an option? I guess I'll look around to see if there are any clusters on eBay so I could use those features.

Will I have to go to the dealer to get the mileage programmed? Is the instrument cluster tied into the PATS system?

Yes the PATS keys are programmed into the cluster and all V-8's came with the message center. The dealer can't change the mileage of the cluster they have to send it to a service center.

I can’t believe the instrument panel was replaced and they put a V6 speedo in. Do you know if I would be able to bring the speedo somewhere to get it programmed myself? The dealer will charge a fortune if I go there. I'm going to a locksmith to get another key cut and programmed. They don’t have those options when programming the key right?

Is the title on your LS listed as salvaged & has the car been started and run with the V-6 cluster? As far as I know only the authorized service centers will be able to access & change the odometer(and they only did that when the car was under warranty & doubt they will do it for a 10 year old car or 1 with a salvage title), but as far as the PATS key programming any locksmith can access the programming with the NGS scanner as long as the cluster is functioning. Here is a copy of what the factory books say about the cluster.
