02 LS w/ Apline system. I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my rear deck speakers and possibly the stock amp. I have two thoughts; replace rear deck speakers or get a 10". I am not into mind blowing bass it gives me a headache (in fact a friend gave me two 12 JL Audio subs in a box and they have sat in my garage for years). What is the better choice? I want more bass than what I am getting, maybe 30% more. Also I don't want to have to run cords from my battery and pull my headunit either. Any suggestions? Anyone added 6x9's and perhaps a more popwferful amp to the existing wire set-up? Anything would be helpful. THNX :)

I replaced my rear 6x9's with a 10" sub, it's vrey simple since the battery is in the trunk. You would just need a line output converter, RCA's and some 8G wire.

I would look for a sub that requires a small sealed box. I use a JL 10w6v2 because it needs less than a 1cuft box and also hasd an RMS rating of 400w so a small amp will power it fine and the whole setup won't take up too much space.

MK VIII sounds

What are the dimensions on the box for the 10"? One 10" or two? I need the area kept to a minimum. I ran a new JVC head unit with the factory amp and it sounds pretty good but its lacking on the bottom end too.

there was a thread here awhile back. it was a link to some site that had these 6x8 subs that held like 200watts rms or something like that. if you could find that site, i would go with 2 of those and upgrade the amp. there is a schematic on the wiring going to the factory amp. so grab those for you and a small alpine and and i think you will see 30 percent more bass

I want to keep the factory head unit. Can I run a 10" off of the wires coming to my existing factory amp (which I will replace)? Or do I have to run the wires to the head unit?

yes you can, sorry i dont know which wires. You'll need a line out converter to do this.

There is a thread on this also, explains exactly what wires and what you will need.
