Take the whole adapter plate off. It would give you a much easier chance. It's not very hard. At this point you might as well before you break or damage something else

for those of you following this :q:q:q:qstorm, here are the results. we ended up unscrewing the threaded mounting pipe and taking the filter base with it, after cutting/tearing the cheap bastard apart. pics as promised
