I'm still trying to make sense of the '96 DA starting issue

So the DA has pretty much been sitting waiting for me to either swap the engine or sell it. It had the head gasket problem that was temporarily fixed with Blue Devil sealer. I'm pretty sure the problem has returned but I haven't confirmed it with another hydrocarbon test. One of the reasons I think the problem is back is because it starts so hard after sitting. But really I can't figure out quite why a leaky head gasket would cause that. Even with one problem cylinder there are still seven good ones so I would think it would start but just puff white smoke out the exhaust.

Now I figured out an easy way to start it. If I put the accelerator to the floor and then try to start it it won't start because it gets no fuel, but If I do that for five seconds and then release the accelerator it starts right away. Even then it acts like it has excess fuel because the RPM stays up for maybe 15 seconds, then drops to normal. To me that seams more like a symptom of leaky injectors, but they have all been replaced with rebuilt. The hard start existed with the old injectors too.

Any comments?

Crank sensors can be intermittent but I don't think that's the problem just a possibility.
Try changing out the ecu relay ?
I wish it would have acted up when I saw it at Eric's.

I have swapped ECU's with no change but not the relay. I did another hydrocarbon test and it passed. I let it idle for at least 20 minutes. The fluid stayed blue. I took the tester and squeezed the ball by the tail pipe and the fluid turned green instantly, so the tester works.

So far I haven't had any trouble starting it providing I put the pedal to the floor before turning the key and then holding it there for a few seconds while cranking, and then letting of it completely. The whole process takes maybe five seconds.
