my transmission is slipping on my 03, some people have told me to change the transmission fluid, i went to lincoln they told me if it's something bad inside that could end up completely killing my transmission

my car has 130k miles on it, i dunno what to do man, bad thing is i'm still making payments on this damn car

1. Changing the transmission fluid will not cause anything bad to happen. Flushing the transmission could cause a problem but there's no way to know without doing it.

2. If the trans is slipping, it's too late. Something is already damaged. The only fix is a swap or rebuild.

Can you better describe what you are experiencing as "slipping"? It could possibly be the solenoid pack, which is much cheaper than a complete transmission.

I've known people to mistake the sight misfire of marginal coils for a transmission problem...

example, car will rev up to 4000rpms and then drop to like 2 with out changing gears then go back up then change

acceleration is horrible it will just sit at like 30 mph and stay, then finally it you'll feel the car shift and then it will start to gain speed

just wanna say i appreciate y'all thoughts and insight on this matter

Starting to sound less like slipping and more like a failing solenoid pack.

If the transmission is slipping, you'll see/feel/hear the engine speed increase but you won't be increasing in speed. If the RPMs drop lower when it's about to shift, that's not slipping.

Well, that rules out the possibility of it just being coils.
That doesn't sound as much like slipping as it does mis-shifting. Do you get an "E" in the gear display? It might be as simple as a bad wire, or as bad as a trashed transmission. A realistic in-between possibility is a bad solenoid assembly.

my car does this and its the selonoid pack. amcoo quoted me for 600 and that's with OEM parts and a tranny flush. may want to try that first.

i think i got an E a couple weeks ago and all the mileage and :q:q:q:q went off and my car wouldn't even do anything it didn't shut off but it just would idle, i hit the gas and nothing would go i had to coast off the street, turned the car off and back on and it all came back up,

That's the solenoid pack. When I got mine from Max, it was like $330. Not sure if we have a contact over there anymore.

hard to replace or better to have someone do it ?

It's not too bad if you don't mind getting a little messy and fabricating a tool or two. One difficult part is refilling the transmission if you don't have the car level, up on a lift (instead of jacked up or on ramps).

Take it to the dealer im a fraid of letting anybody touch my car other than the dealer......These cars are very complex!

My car was serviced once by the local dealer and they tried to rip me off to do a valve job at the tune of $2200(which I never had done). Since then, it has never seen a dealer for service.

:eek::eek:

They have tried to rip me off as well I just tell them exactly what I want done at the time and don't let them tell me any diffrent.

No two dealers are the same. Some are good, some are bad, and most are somewhere in-between.

the dealer tried to rip me off a couple times, but i feel the same way i just feel more comfortable knowing my car is at the place with the logo on the building then some random place

That's why you become friends with a good local mechanic. Then you don't have to be going to a "random place".

u r correct but fortunately my car has been pretty damn reliable

Both of mine have been as well. It may help that I've had them since they were new. In any event, we generally only post on here when there is a problem, so it makes them seem like they are nothing but trouble.
