My friend Tim brought up an interesting possibility. I changed the coolant two or three times when dealing with the radiator and water pump and thermostat. I stored all the used coolant in old coolant jugs for disposal. Of course, I also had new coolant and sometimes a partailly full new coolant jug. Some of the old coolant would have looked quite good but could have been contaminatied with oil from the drain pan.
So he's suggesting that I accidently used coolant that had oil in it. Now, if any of you knew me personally you would know that that is entirely possible! I guess I will sein the oil off the top in the reservoir for awhile and se if it keeps coming back. Or could change it, which could be another wasye of money. Or I could just do the gasket anyway.
Well, right now I have to go do a compression test.
