Myths and lies of illegal immigration

By Kathy McKee; January 4, 2004; published in The Sonoran News

Because the pro-illegal alien lobby has a bottomless pit of money and can hire PR people to spin (and fabricate) anything any way, there are an undue number of myths and lies that the public (and many politicians) has bought into. The FACTS are:

1. It is NOT racist to call these people "illegal aliens" In fact, "illegal aliens" is the only term used in federal laws and regulations to describe criminals (and they ARE criminals) who come into our country illegally. They are not illegal immigrants, not undocumented immigrants, not migrant workers, and not day laborers - they're ILLEGAL ALIENS.

2. Mexico is NOT a poor country. It has the fifth richest economy in the world, and by sending its teeming masses to our country, that status keeps on rising. Mexico has more resources per square mile than the U.S. and plenty of money to take care of its own people. Why should the taxpayers of this country subsidize Mexico's corruption?

3. Illegal aliens are NOT necessarily coming here to work. Lou Dobbs recently reported that 33 percent of our prison population is now comprised of non-citizens. Plus, 36 to 42 percent of illegal aliens are on welfare. So, for a good proportion of these people, the American dream is crime and welfare, not coming here to work.

4. Illegal aliens are NOT doing work Americans won't do. What jobs won't Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, DO CONSTRUCTION WORK, work in airports, etc. - just like we have the past 200 years before "our" government allowed these people to invade our country. There are 18 million Americans who cannot find a job, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so at peril to American workers.

5. Illegal aliens absolutely do not contribute more than they cost. Certainly the millions in prison and on welfare aren't contributing a dime to our economy, and the ones who are working often are paid in cash with no deductions for taxes at all. The ones who use fraudulent social security numbers and qualify to pay taxes and social security have so many deductions for dependents that they pay little if any taxes. We have seen them pay less than $100 in taxes and get back $4,000 refunds (thanks to earned income tax credits and multiple dependents). The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the average Mexican illegal alien costs U.S. taxpayers a whopping $55,000 each. Some bargain, eh?

6. The economy does NOT depend on illegal aliens. Sure, greedy CEOs (making $50 to $150 MILLION a year) and business owners depend on illegal aliens, but due to #3, #4 and #5 above, the only thing illegal aliens are contributing to is the collapse of our economy and making the rich richer.

7. Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa's "How Much Is That Tomato?" The study concludes that 'since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers' profit, etc.), using minimum wage workers instead of illegal aliens would increase prices of agricultural products by approximately 3 percent in the summer and 4 percent in the winter ... hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.

8. Consumers are NOT benefiting from lower labor costs. Again, it's CEOs and business owners who benefit from taxpayer subsidies for their illegal alien workers. The Big Three automakers say they moved so many jobs to Mexico because their labor costs are 80 percent less than in America. Anybody notice the price of new cars spiraling downward under NAFTA?

So, before you believe the prevalent pack of lies perpetuated by the illegal alien lobby, which makes billions off this government-sanctioned criminal activity, ask yourself who's saying this garbage and look at what they have to gain. Citizens Against Illegal Immigration, just like Protect Arizona NOW, is an all-volunteer, totally grass-roots organization of citizens who are making nothing and have nothing personal to gain from their efforts to fight this corruption. Whose side are you on, and what are YOU doing to save your state and country from this evil?

McKee is the state coordinator of Citizens Against Illegal Immigration, as well as director of Protect Arizona NOW. A former Quaker Sunday School teacher and Volunteer of the Year in a large metropolitan area, she has a 35-year record of charity work and philanthropy largely benefiting minorities.

Very powerful piece! The only thing I disagree with is the financial impact on prices. Minimum wage in Michigan was just bumped to $7.15 hr. That a fairly significant jump in that component.

The strangest thing is that the legislation was overwhelmingly pushed by the Republicans then Democrats jumped on the bandwagon. What's with that?

All that being said, I am willing to pay more for produce and everything else to rid ourselves of this plague.

It seems patently unfair that "illegal" women come here to spit out a kid, entitling her and her brat their share of the jackpot.

I invite any and all of you to visit Phoenix AZ. The above post is absolutely on the dot! See all of the above daily in action.
More items to add; the illegals willingness to work as cheap labor also suppress the local wages.
Forget about any of them having insurance should they hit you in traffic.
English as a second language in grade schools? Come on!
Have any of you heard or read about the "divsion" between Latinos out here? Apparantly those of Mexican decent who have been in the States for a couple of generations don't like those "new" Mexican-Americans with there clothes, loud music and poor living standards. The "Americanized" Latinos also don't like the fact that those "fresh off the border" are affecting them financially as well. Go figure.
The "new" Mexican-Americans complain that the older generation M-A's should welcome their bretheren, let them in on the American "jack-pot" and to stop acting like the Anglican (Gringos).
Hmmmm...

I am from New Mexico and we are getting flooded with illegals. My son in pre-school has only one or two English speaking friends. As much as I dont like it, I think they are here to stay. Coming from a town where Hispanics are not the minority, everyone would agree with the above piece.

I have a close relative in Tucson, AZ whose next door neighbor is a border patrol officer (God bless them all). He said one night he was all by himself patrolling an area and he looked to his left, saw 40 or so people sneaking across; then he looked to his right and saw about 50 people sneaking across. He did nothing. Why risk his life? They would have shot him down in a heartbeat.

We need more manpower on the borders! And tanks, too! (Why not?)

Fossten, I do not usually agree ......................

But in this case, I am in total agreement. The very first thing that these peoples do when entering this country is commit a crime. And then they are treated as a protected class.

It's called pandering, and I'm sick of it, and I'm intellectually honest enough to state that in THIS CASE, BOTH SIDES are equally, stupidly guilty.

Now you understand why I've given my party the boot? :Bang

That is the basis of the "Minute Man" project.

I'm all for it, but didn't they get the "cease and desist" order a while back?

They are back online;

I said, long before you came on this site that I was disenchanted because the clear distinction between Democrat and Republican had disappeared. I voted independent a number of times but wasted my vote.

You said earlier that Bush had been stymied by Congress. That's not really true. Bush has had just about everything handed to him and is a little sparse on the vetos for my tastes.

So, are you still a Conservative?

I forget where I heard this point, but two guys were arguning over the fact that illegal aliens do jobs that americans won't do. Then one guy says, "Hey, have you ever seen the show Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel?" The other guys says yes and the first guy says, "So we'll clean up :q:q:q:q stained basements and kill rats and roached in sewers by the hundreds, but we won't mow a lawn?" there was a rather long and awkward silence after that comment.

I fired my lawn company because I found out he hired illegals, and I won't hire any construction company that does either.

You guys should listen to Carlos Mencia every once in awhile, he has a pretty good perspective on things like that. Atleast from what I've seen.

My wife, who's all about human suffering and minority rights, has joined the 40% that want to see all illegals, not just Mexicans, sent packing.

The $55,000 figure is staggering. Are there some docs to back that up?

I agree with you that Bush hasn't used his veto, but many times that's been because money for our troops overseas has been embedded in almost every bill, making it impossible for us to keep fighting the war on terror if he vetoed the bill. That's yet another example of the Republicans not supporting the President. McCain did that very thing recently.

Of course I'm still a Conservative. What kind of stupid question is that? Will you never learn? I haven't changed. It's the Republicans that have changed. They are now too far to the left of me for my taste.

Excellent article and for once I agree with just about every single point as you do. My friend who works in a Hospital here in California where we have a humongous illegal alien population has told me that every single day illegal aliens come into Kaiser, receive medical care and medicine then walk away without having to pay that hospital bill, sometimes in the thousands of dollars. I'm not saying we shouldn’t care for people that are injured, but why should our tax dollars pay for them? I'd rather see those medical tax dollars go to war veterans or retired citizens.

Isn't it interesting that we all agree on this, as does most of the country, yet our leaders are ALL pandering to a bunch of illegals. They are just scared. What a bunch of pansies we have in Washington. Where's Bill Frist on this? Harry Reid? Denny Hastert? Nancy Pelosi? Trent Lott? McCain?

By the way, guys, (and I know this is the kiss of death) you all agree with Rush Limbaugh on this issue. (Ducks as objects start flying)

No need to duck. This is a mainstream problem and Rush's reaction is fitting. As is yours.

if illegal aliens are such hard workers how come mexico is such a shlt hole

It's because their government is slightly more corrupt than ours. Not by much though. You could be looking at our future.
