Ignition Interloc

Does anyone have experience with an ignition interlock in the LS? I have to get one put in soon and wondered if the electronics of the LS would pose any problems with it.
 
Damn that sucks. Been there done that. Real glad its gone. Waiting for 20seconds to start sucks. It will go on no problem. Seen other high end cars with them.
 
Yes, I have had a few troubles since moving to Arkansas. I can get my license back in 52 days and will be required to have an interlock device for one year.

I didn't think it would be much of a problem but knowing how fickle the LS is about some things I just thought I'd ask for personal experience. It is basically just an extra switch that must be activated to start the car.

do you have a scooter? here in NC you see people driving on 50 mph road going 20mph in there vespas, and its usually because of a dui *owned* they don't need a license to drive one

Well damn! I never knew that! I'm in Smithfield, NC and have seen tons of people going around on scooters! Lol.

I already checked into it. Even asked the DMV, HiPo, and checked state law. In AR a "scooter" is considered a motorized bicycle if it is under 50cc. Anything larger and it is a motorcycle which obviously requires a licence. In order to drive a "motorized bicycle" on a public road you must have either a motorized bicycle permit or a valid driver's license. They will not issue that permit to someone suspended for DWI.

I've been under pedal power for the past 10+ months.... and bummed lots of rides. Luckily my GF is understanding and we have carpooled to work this whole time.

This part takes the cake. Not only did they suspend my license but my vehicle registration as well. So I can't even pay someone to drive me around in my own car! I was able to file a hardship stating a family member (someone who resides in the same house) depends on this vehicle for life/work/etc. So my GF is the only one legally able to drive my car. Fu(k this state.

It has been a hard lesson learned...
 
Damn, in CA they usually just charge you an arm an a leg, suspend you license for 30-90 days and your done. it's the second time that you're f*cked for a year or more.

It really depends on your lawyer/defender. My dad had a great one and they didn't even take his license.

Exactly. 2nd time in under 5 years.

Didn't cost me too much in the way of fines but I did 14 days in county and got the 2yr suspension with 1yr allowed interlock. Had to take a treatment class too. Lawyers really can't do :q:q:q:q for you here.

Like I said, a hard lesson learned.
 
The thing that it seems like is being missed here is just how serious this is. You do this enough times, and you will kill someone or some entire family. Not doing this is certainly worth the inconvenience of not being able to drive for a while. You've done it at least twice, so it doesn't seem like you are going to change. If it were up to be, after the second offense, you would lose your license for good. If you were caught driving after that, then it would be jail for life.
Fortunately for you, it's not up to me.
Unfortunately for your ultimate victims, it's not up to me.

I have done the crime and done my time. And the important thing here is that I HAVE learned from this experience and will do everything necessary to ensure it does not happen again.

I will make no attempt to justify my actions with statements like "I was just barely over the limit" or "it was just one too many" or "this dry county promotes drinking and driving" cause that would not matter to you. Alcoholics are always trying to justify their actions and that is not who I want to be.

While I disagree with your opinion I do respect it. Let me ask you this: have you ever driven too fast or lost control of your car or even used your phone while driving? All of those are also likely to get you into an accident that may kill someone.

Let's not throw stones here. We all live and learn.
 
I said my piece, and I'll leave it at that. No, I have never lost control of a car, but yes, I have driven in a dangerous manor before.

Don't forget texting and driving. OH MAN does that make me mad. Makes me want to punch the person next to me when they do that. I just remind myself that they have control of the throttle and brakes and just give them a short tongue lashing.

Oh and smoking while driving ain't to bad as far as distractions go, but if your drop your cigarette(or anything else for that matter) DON'T PICK IT UP. I watch a woman whack a guardrail on an onramp once because she was learning over to pickup her cigarette. It was a new MERCEDES!

Anyway, let us know how the install goes!

the interloc will be fine, all it does is interrupt the starter wire until the breath test has been completed and passed, then it re-engages the starter wire, and you start the car with the key as normal, all of the factory systems remain intact and operate as they normally should.

if you have a remote start, dont try to use it or the system will fail you and you will get a violation, i would recommend disabling it as to not make a mistake by forgetting about it.

i have installed quite a few of these, in many cars. you and your car will be fine.
