VatoZone (Oh, here we go!) is OK for anything non electric or drivetrain related, such as air freshners, waxes and the like.
As mentioned earlier, I was low on oil stock, so I bougt 12 qts of Mobil 1. The guy tells me "you get a free oil filter with this purchase". I looked at him and said "Doubt you carry the filter I need"
"We carry filters for all applications, Sir."
"Well OK. 2008 Aston Martin Vanquish S."
"Huh?"
"Where did I lose you? I'd like a filter for a 2008 Aston Martin Vanquish S. V12"
"Uhhh. We don't have that filter"
"I don't care, you said I get a free oil filter with this purchase. I want to redeem the offer made to me."
"We don't carry filters for that car. That's a dealer only filter"
"It is? Then, why pray tell did you tell me you carry filters for all applications?"
"I meant all common applications"
"Right. Just ring me up, Skippy."
"Uhh. OK. Total is 88..." and some change, don't remember the exact total.
With respect to my buddy Medium here, VatoZone employees (for the most part) are retarded. 1st off, there is no such thing as a 2008 Aston Martin Vanquish S. Second, filters for those cars are not Dealer Only items.
And for the record, I don't own one. I wouldn't know what to do with 12 Cylinders.
Then, there's the time when one of them started arguing with me about how my Supercoupe had a rotor and distributor.
"Hi, can I help you?"
"Yeah. I am looking for spark plugs. 1990 Thunderbird Supercoupe. 3.8L V6 Supercharged"
"Is that a Pontiac?"
"What?"
"The thunderbird... oh wait. that's a Firebird. FORD, right?"
"Ummm... yeah. FORD"
"Here we go. :blah: :blah: :blah: plugs. I can look up the rotor and distributor for that car if you want me to."
"What?"
"The rotor and distributor, you should change those when you change spark plugs"
"Can't. Don't have one"
"Yes it does."
"No, it doesn't."
"It does, it's listed right here, see?" as he turns the screen towards me
"Ok. I'll buy those as well, but could you show me where they go? I'm still learning"
"No problem Sir, is your car here?"
"No, I left it at home, you're going to have to follow me there... Of course the car is here!"
So, we go outside, I pop the hood, and he starts looking... and looking... and looking some more.
"Maybe it's in the trunk?" I asked. "The car has a lot of weird stuff in the trunk" (Not really, but I was playing the dumb customer)
"No, it wouldn't be in the trunk. Let me get a guy who knows a little more about these cars. Hey, John?! Manager, knows me and most of my cars.
John comes out, and ding ding says "This guy want to know where his distributor is"
"There aint no distributor on these cars, its a DIS"
"That's what I tried telling him, but he wouldn't listen. He said the computer showed a distributor and cap, so I asked him to show me where they were"
John chuckles, looks at his employee and says "This guy forgot more about cars that you'll ever know. Don't ever argue with him when it comes to cars."
"But the computer..."
"The computer isn't always right. When a customer comes in and asks for spark plugs, chances are he knows his car. And it's not "this guy", it's "this customer" Go to lunch"
So now, I shop at NAPA. I can call them up, tell them what I'm after, and it's waiting for me when I get there. I would have gotten the oil there as well, but unfortunately they were out of stock, and VatoZone was the only place in town that carries a good stock of Mobil 1 0W 40
