Idle Air Control

i have been having trouble starting my car, it cranks for a few seconds until the engine turns on, i have been having a low idle, around 6000 rpms while at lights and i heard it could be the iac. today when driving, i was waiting to turn at the light and when i made the turn the car felt like i ran out of gas,(half of tank in the car when this happened). i continually tapped the gas, the engine would not respond to the gas given. the battery light came on and i pulled over. i immediately shut the engine and restarted it. The car started but then shut off immediately. it did this about three times, i felt it start then it would cut off. i finally got it to stay on and the engine was shaking
hard during the idle. I parked it at a friends house and let it sit for a couple hours. I started it up and drove around the parking lot a couple times, and it was like none of this happened. what does sound like to you guys. would a transmission make the car start and immediately shut down?? what could it be? any help is appreciated.

Iac

Yes, sounds like the IAC going bad, its a cheap $50 fix, 2 bolts and connector and you're done. The IAC gets carboned up. You can try cleaning it out with electronic cleaner, spray, spray spray into the opening to get all the gunk out, let dry and replace on throttle body, might work for awhile, but if its old, just replace it and drive.

Thanks for the response, I'll get it replaced, aside from a tire change I'm not good with fixing cars: I come on here and get advice from people like you. Appreciate your input, I'll let you know the outcome
