I recently bought a factory non-alpine 6 disk cd player to replace my factory non-alpine tape deck. I thought it would be a straight swap with no new wire harness required, but the cd player says "cd-error" or "slots full" everytime I press a cd button. Did I do something wrong or is it a bad cd player(I bought it on ebay)?

Disconnect the negative battery terminal for at least an hour, then reattach and let the CD player reboot without touching any buttons. Let it discover what the HU capabiliites are before you press any buttons.

if that don't work then the HU is bad.

Well I just disconnected the neg. terminal so I will have to cross my fingers. Is is normal to have to do this? I don't recall ever doing this when installing radios on my older cars.

If it plugged right in to your existing harness, and the reboot mentioned above fails, I would say you've been hosed and have a bad HU. But I'm sure not an expert on this...

I disconnected the neg. terminal for a lil over an hour, but I don't think it rebooted because my preset stations were still there. Is there another way to reboot the stereo?

If doing that didnt work i would recommend contacting the person and seeing what they have to say to fix it or see if u can return it and get another one. Did this person on ebay give you any type of warranty on it?
