I need help please stumped

Hello to all I have a 2001 Lincoln LS my drivers side door will not open from the inside my GF and I went to store and when I went to get out of the car the door would not open, it feels like the door handle is just not pulling on anything to open the door. I took the door panel off and finely got to the handle, from what I can see there is nothing hooked to the handle when I pull the door handle nothing happens except the handle turns a little gear on the bottom of the handle frame. What opens the door? I can not see a rod, cable or anything other then the cable that locks the door. Driving me nuts PLEAS HELP thanks

sounds like the cable broke... if you check the stickies for the service manual you can probably find the pages that relate to the door handles. pretty sure they are the same across model years, so any service manual should do the trick.

No need to bold your entire post. Anyway, there is just the one cable and it accomplishes the locking and the opening function based on how far it moves. Either your handle has broke or the cable has slipped down at the latch assembly.

I suggest you try subscribing to www.just answers.com for 18.00 a month. There are many lincoln master mechanics I ask questions about when I am stumped like you. I would recommend tasking the other door apart, so that you can see exactly how it is supposed to work. that way it would be easier to find what is wrong with the door in question.
 
Today I got a picture of the cable and how it attaches to that assembly/dppr handle. So Ill write back today after work

Today I got a picture of the cable and how it attaches to that assembly/door handle. So Ill write back today after work. IT appears from the photo I got that there a stranded cable similar to what you have seen on lawnmowers, attaching to to an assembly that included the door handel. The cable is fixed to the assembly/door handle. When you pull on the door handle from out side the car the cable actuates the cable . This is likely afixed to the door lock . Pull on the handle , pulls the cable and unloosens the door lock(I AM TAKING AN EDUCATED GUESS BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE THE WHOLE OPERATION BUT I CAN GET IT FROM MY LINCOLN EXPERTS.Theres 3 rivets on the assembly/ door , you need a 1/8 drill , drill them ourt it should be easy. Then the entire door handle will come out. Don't do this if you see a cable affixed to the assemble/door . Look for a broken cable down lower. If you wand you could call me , give me your address and I can mail you the diagrams i have.Now if you drill out the rivits, you need a rivit gun and the same size rivits to re install the assembl/door and cable back into orginal position.

You can hit the "CTRL" and "+" keys to make all the text in your browser larger. Mac uses CMD and +, I believe. CTRL and - makes it smaller. CTRL and 0 (zero) should put it back to the default zoom level.

Bolding, ALL CAPS, and poor grammar/no punctuation are just associated with terrible eBay/craigslist ads. Those sellers think making their text abnormal makes it easier to read (it makes it harder) and makes their ad more attractive (it makes me dislike them). There are also some people that have rolled through here posting the same exact descriptions of their problem to 3 or 4 different threads.

You only bolded so that obviously doesn't really apply to you, so don't worry about it. Though you could have used some more periods :) Don't take offense, don't worry about it. We're not going to grill you for it. Just giving a bit of feedback.
 
Bill Boats with some answers. First , there is a cable from the inside door handle to the door lock. See if its attached to the door handle. If not see if it fell inside the door, look at the door lock is hook to it too. There is a complete video on U TUBE about 9 minutes long showing a guy fixing your kind of problem. Just google lincoln ls door handle U tube. Showes the insides of the door and how ist attached to the handle and lock. Also how to get at it and how to remove the parts needed to do this repair. You can't miss by watching it. I also have more pictures so if you call 330701 9689 I can speak with your. day calls accepted.

A forum is more of a leave-a-message-on-each-others-phones-back-and-forth rather than an actual phone conversation, so don't expect responses to every single post. If the person really cares about the problem, they'll read your response when they get to it. Don't expect responses every time. Some people make an account, post their problem, get advice, fix the problem, and never log in again (until they have a new problem) without so much as a "thank you".

PS: Youtube, not U tube, but whatever, I'm just glad to see decent grammar and punctuation
