will a 2005 3.9 work in a 2000 as long as i use my original heads wiring harness and intake mani etc? really all i need is the block and internals so i'm thinking it will work. i can get a 05 3.9 with 23k for 700 bucks so i need to know quick

no it will not work the 03+ have variable intake timing and the AIC is non existant there is not manual cable interface for the gas pedal since the 03+ uses throttle by wire and the PCM for the 03 IS NOT compatible with the 02 and below they changed the bus architecture for the CPU, dont try it, what is wrong with your engine that you want to replace it. this has been discused before here at the forum you aint the first and sadly wont be the last asking for this mod.

Accessories are different IIRC, mounting locations ect.. Nobody has really broken the two down and compared tho.

for $700 buy the motor and see if you can make the swap. if you can't make the swap, then sell for a profit.

You will not be getting a deal after buying all the parts to switch over. Then the block might have added oil passages in it to feed VVS oil galleries in heads. You price out headgaskets for the 3.9? Does the engine need tq to yeild head bolts? If so have to buy those too. $$$$ Need to switch out front timing cover too. Not worth it in my book.

it's a tough question - I have not seen the two blocks side by side - but it would concern me that all the little things (like accessory mounting, even the oil filter) are different and likely it's those little things that would mess you up.

You wouldn't thing that the internals (crank, rods, pistons, rings) would be too different, but then again - the piston tops maybe....

Sorry - I wish we had more info on that level of detail. if we ever hurt the lower-end - it certainly would be nice to know we could buy a newer block...
