So today marked the day where I finally built up enough courage to take in my LS to get the solenoid body replaced.

I was stoked to hear that it was done this afternoon. I thought wow, now I'm really going to be worry free, feel what this baby's supposed to shift like, and not have the feeling of being stranded.

So I get to the dealer, everything is good, right with what the estimate said. I review what they did, noticed it was missing something. I might be wrong but at 100k miles, and having the tranny serviced only once before (replaced solenoid body back in 07) wouldn't you think the dealer would replace the filter while they were in there? NO!!! I am furious, they thought the intent was to change the solenoid body. Well with that said, why even fill it with fluid. If you strictly went by what the estimate (which cost me $90) you would have dropped the pan replaced the solenoid body and let the car sit there.

He seemed surprised when I asked about the filter, surprised when I brought up the Oasis report I have when I mentioned that it might be time for it regardless of what I was getting done. So, they told me that the first page of the Oasis Report was the entire vehicles warranty repair history with nothing on it. Mine is four pages long dating from July '05 - March '08.

Sorry for the rant but am I in the wrong here? I almost think that they didn't even check anything when I brought it in for an estimate, just offered a suggestion based on what I thought the problem might be. It shifts well, but I'm still left with worry because I have an old filter, new fluid, and $750 into it.

I would demand they put in a new filter.

Thats like not changing the oil filter when you get an oil change.

Any plan of action I should take? Go to another dealer? Get service quote with outline of what gets done? Because I'm pretty sure these mechanics can't just freelance their work.

I would like proof to show they are in the wrong here. Early assumptions on my part make it sound that they want me to pay the $200ish dollars to drop the pan and filter again.

I would go back and ask to speak with the service manager and what can be done to keep you as a satisfied customer.

I always thought a transmission service included a filter change unless otherwise noted.

Unfortunately, if you wanted it changed, you should have asked them to do that before you left it with them.

The service schedule does not call for the filter (or fluid for that matter) to be replaced until the 150K mile mark. While it would have been nice if they had asked if you wanted this extra service, I don't see that they did anything wrong. If they had changed it without asking, the customer might have fussed about the added charge and forced them to eat the cost. I really don't blame them.

It used too, but not anymore (for most cars).

My worry is that I was speaking to him about it. "We were replacing the solenoid body, not the filter."

Well in that case don't replace the fluid either.

I give them some credit, they gave me a free loaner with "10 miles to empty", and offered me a car wash while it was raining.

The thing is that 1/4 to 1/3 of the fluid must be drained out to replace the solenoid pack. I suppose they could have put the old fluid back in. If they didn't do a full fluid exchange, they might as well have put the old back.

Thanks Joe, I was really hoping you'd chime in on this, if it's not in their work instruction or whatever mechanics call their instructions then I won't fuss about it.

He did mention that they should have called, in that case I should have went elsewhere or waited and did it myself.

When i dropped my vehicle off at the dealer, the service advisor assigned to me called me several times to keep me updated on the status.

Yeh, I drove it about a mile back to work lol.

Joe, I don't know the procedure for it. I thought it was a drop the pan and filter sort of deal.

Drop pan yes.
Drop filter no.

I got a voicemail. I'm not lying though, this guy was a dick. I've had my car serviced there before and that's the vibe I get.

*edit - apparently it recognizes the short term for Richard to be a name and not profanity.

What vehicle??

The dealer I use always does this as well. I assumed they all did until I tried a different one.

Really??

Ive only taken mine to a ford dealer and all i had done was the $100 service where they check for codes or any issues.

Guess if i actually had something done i would get one.

The guy i had was cool as hell and loved my car.

I actually had several guys come out to look at it. They said it was the one of the cleanest LS's theyve ever seen and the first with intake and exhaust. One of the guys worked at a Lincoln dealer when they sold them as new vehicles still.

I understand people with different personalities, and stresses of the job building up over the day, but this guy just has that aura about him that screams you're not going to like what I say, if you don't like it well go somewhere else.

Anyways, thanks fellas. I'm going to go blow off the remaining steam at the gym.

Might not have been worth a new thread for this but I felt like it had potential.

Now for the next project, new system in the trunk.

Not much to say about the trans but in my area (Allentown PA) some dealers give out loaners and some don't. The closest dealer to me has given me a free loaner as long as they have one available and I didn't even buy my car there or anything and it's not under warranty. In fact, I took it in for a few issues and it took longer than expected (almost a full week - waiting on parts) and all they asked was to make sure the gas tank was full when I returned it. However, most of the dealers around me charge a rental fee...certainly makes my choice as to where to take my car for repairs a bit easier.

My dealer back home charged one as well, I think it was roughly $40 a day. If I was going to get charged for it I would have bothered someone at work for a ride.

If ima pay 40 a day for a rental it better be a 5.0 mustang at least.
