All of a sudden my car ,02 LS Sport with A V8 with 68K miles, seems to be overheating at least that is what the gage is saying along with the message center, no codes are in computer I have ODB II reader. It is also making a high pitched whirling sound when accelerating. During the summer, I changed the plugs, along with replacing thermostat, belt, and hoses, brakes, rotors and shocks. Does this car have a fan clutch? Anyone have any ideas? I would be most appreciative.

could be several things, that you need to check, how is the rad? do the fins in the front look clogged up? If they are you can pressure clean the fins so that the air can circlelate. Also check for leaks. And make sure that the fan is working, one way to check if the fan comes on is by turning on the a/c, when you turn on the a/c if the fan comes on that means its working. you can pressure check your coolant system also. Check your oil for water resedue. If you have water in your oil that means your headgaskets are gone and that can cause overheating. You say that you already changed your t-stat thats why i didnt mention it. These are all problems that can go wrong with your coolant system that can cause overheating.

Good thought about running the A/C. The radiator looks good; fluids are at an appropriate level. I try to maintain my car.

Do you know if the fan hydraulic unit is prone to fail? Or do they lose "lose" fluid? Can it easily be refilled?
 
I hate it when people post this, but do a search, there is extensive discussions on the LS overheating problems.
 
Belt

I hate to admit it but one time I changed my serpitine belt annd put it on wrong, everything worked but it would squeel under acceleration.

I serached and came up with nothing relating to THIS problem; they all had trouble codes and they had different effects. I traded the car in since the retards at Ford couldnt find anything wrong with it. Aren't these guys supposed to be certified? Anyone can take a scan tool and search a damn code and tell you what it means, but there is no code, and thats when you take it to someone who is supposed to KNOW what they are talking about. I checked all fluids, made sure the fan was running properly. It only happened when I started it up. You may want to take it to the dealer, but I assure you they wont find anything wrong with it. Enlighten us on the situation though, if it gets fixed.

This car has a hydraulically-driven cooling fan. If you're getting a high-pitched whine and overheating, I'd look at the pump for the fan. I have a 2nd Gen LS (electric cooling fan), so I can't really help you much beyond that...

The squeal could be the hydraulic pump for the fan or the fan motor. There have been several people who have had a problem with the hydraulic cooling fan system failing. There has also been some people who have had their car say it is overheated when it is not.

Since it is hydraulic there is no fan clutch. As far as refilling it, it is as simple as adding fluid to the power steering. The reservoir for the fan looks like the one for the power steering and uses the same DexronIII/Mercon ATF but is on the side opposite the power steering reservoir.
 
After all the trouble shooting, I was pretty sure the hydraulic fan was ok, I examined the fan unit reservoir and it appeared to be marginally low. So, I brought the car in to the dealer for it's regular scheduled oil change, told them the issues and what I had done. They did some testing and everything was ok. The best part my total cost $0. I had previously purchased a book of 6 oil changes for $100. See not all dealers are stealers!!
