Me and 2 friends were just leaving my house, I get abou 450 feet away, and found out I forgot something, SO, I attempted to turn into this culdisack (or w/e) and of course, NO TRACTION. going about 5 MPH I slide into a green steel stake in this guys lawn!!!

My passenger side fog light has about a 3" diameter hole, a slit cut from the bottom to the top of the fog light housing, and the fog light mount is missing!!

I got a quick estimate from the local body shop and they quoted me $1200 for a whole new LSE bumper, painting, and 3 days of labor!!!

It's been a while since this happened and my parents still haven't noticed it yet, so just asking you guys, will this be covered on insurance?
 
should be under comprehensive. If its easier just say u were driving and hit a racoon. much simpler and avoids the possibility of them screwing you around
 
LOL That will work. Like they said in the Raccoon thread those little bastards are committing suicide all over the world!

When you say "painting" are you talking about the whole car or just the bumper? That's mighty expensive for just doing a bumper. You can dam near get a new paint job for that much. Just wondering.
 
yea i jus got my car out the shop from hittin that damn raccoon ... (seriously i did) and the total cost was like no more than 1,100
 
I'd go with the coon story, apparently the economy hit them hard too they must be out of jobs and cant take life anymore, its sad actually. But yea those spikes are insane, I never ht one or came close but some lady down my block has them there painted like glow in the dark green, a foot tall and rusty as hell. And all I remember from being a kid was playing kickball and stuff in the street and fearing tripping and slamming my face onto those things

There is a bit of green paint where it sliced through, any recommendations of how to get rid of that?

Also, I think on Saturday I'm going to drive my car up north for an xmas party, and people hit lots of sh*t up there :D
 
try goo b gone any natural cleaner maybe GENTLY use a razor to scrap, or even a buffer wool pad high RPM?!
 
this is so funny, my dad burried a big pipe in the ground. He has some small reflector poles on the edge of his lawn , for the plows and such. He has this doughebag down the road that was tearing up his lawn. So he burried this pipe and it worked, he burried it at a perfect height where it would hit the bumper but the car would go over it. To say the least it f'ed up the bottom of his car, the pipe did not even move. That was the last time his lawn was messed up.

To someone who would intentionally do that, I see your point. However, this was accidental.

Find out your local laws about the distance stuff like that has to be from a public road. You can find it out from the zoning office. It's probably too close if it's right at the edge of his property. Get his homeowner's insurance to pick it up.

Otherwise, the raccon story sounds good.

It was not a accident even at 5 mph he was going faster than conditions would allow and lost control of his vehicle and could be liable for any damages to owners property.

As far as stakes distance from road way he would have to contact jurisdiction for that info as you stated.
 
5MPH is IDLE speed >.>

I had the car in reverse to at 4500 RPM and 120lb of weight on my back wheels, the entrance to the road was just pure ice so I had no control over it...

Anyways, I'll use my work box cutter with a brand new blade in it and just scrape it off a little.
 
maybe try a little paint thinner on it. Just a little bit, and make sure to wipe off the area when you are done (obviously). If that doesnt' work, maybe a claybar, since it's over the finished clear coat.

The only reason I mention paint thinnner first is you probably have it lying around anyways.
 
lol, at my old house I had problems with the snow plow knocking over my mail box every winter (in the city mind you). After the second winter I put a 12' x 8" pipe in the ground and filled it with concrete and pit my mailbox on top. Never had a problem since until I moved down the road a bit to my new house and the very first winter the plow knocked my mail box over....
 
I agree with everyone!!!
If it was a accident it was a accident but those things are there for a good reason. People without sidewalks just dont want peoples cars in their yards.


They also don't want plows getting to close.


My wife's father put those out for the first time last year. He lives in a culdisack and a since its a nice development a neighbor plows the neighborhood with his pick up and hit one. He flipped sh*t even with his pick up but it serves them right. Like Pete says there is a certain measurement sometimes, depends on where you live. This development was a homeowners association type and allowed it to be placed right on the edge.


He still had his placed about 2 feet away from the edge. The plow driver thought his yard ended right at that steak and tore up those 2 feet anyway.


If I had a yard I wouldn't want to fill in ruts every year cause some people just don't know boundaries and don't care.
