Yay!!

Spent most of the day (off and on) yesterday replacing the intake gaskets due to a vacuum leak that I noticed while spraying MAF cleaner around the engine everywhere. I noticed that there was a leak of some sort at the very back of the driver's side IMRC. I figured I must need to change the IMRC gaskets....

So I did it. Now it runs worse... :frown: It used to be an occasional stumble, now it's nearly constant.

Spray test indicates the same area as well as the area around the last 2 injectors on the driver's side. Hoping it was something easy, today I changed the O-rings on all of the injectors on that side and reassembled. Same issue, no better, no worse. So, I'm thinking maybe one of the IMRC gaskets must not be seated right... (more :frown:, and a little bit of  )

So, I guess I get to do it again.

Do the IMRC's themselves leak where the shaft goes thru them? I though I heard this.

I've heard of that also. Not really sure how to go about changing the o-rings, but I guess I should give them a look when I get them out again...

the orings at the ends of the shafts? i just put new orings on. and done. nothing complex.

I don't know if they're different from Gen 1 to Gen 2, but just looking at them real quick, it didn't look like there were just o-rings hanging out on the ends. I'll have to look at them again in the morning.

Anyway, I got it all apart again, and apparently, I pinched the bottom gasket rubber gasket pretty badly in the back corner of the driver's side IMRC. Awesome...

Anyway, no big deal, I'll just pull out the other brand new set of them that I know I have...

Turns out, I ordered the lower gaskets for the older style IMRC plates ( I think I ordered them for a Cobra), that don't have the groove for the rubber gasket, and actually use the same kind of gasket as the top uses. SH!T!! lol.

So, I'm ordering some from RockAuto tonight, just in case, and I'm gonna head out tomorrow in search for some gaskets anywhere near my area. The normal parts stores have them as special order, but there's one store here in North Charleston (Parks Auto Pars) that always seems to have ONE of whatever I'm looking for, whenever the other normal stores don't carry whatever it is. I'm gonna check there first in the morning....

I also figure I should replace the hoses on the EGR valve pressure sensor, since they're back there too. Didn't think to check them before...

they weren't hanging out on the ends. they where around the shaft, inside the bearing. they sit in a little groove on the shaft.

keep in mine that the upper gasket is listed as a plentom gasket and the lower one a intake gasket. I am doing my cobra install and the upper ones were a pia to locate

Alright, thanks, I'll check it out.

I've already got a couple sets of the uppers, but thanks for the heads-up. :)

I have a full set of o rings I think If I didn't toss them, and end bearing from a set deletes I am making.... you can have them if you want them.

I took a quick look at them and it didn't seem immediately obvious how to go about getting to them....anyone care to give some 'splaining?

How to get to the o rings?
I don't understand what your asking.
Anyhow.....
Everything comes apart pretty easy.
Hard part is getting the little screws off the butterfly's.
Use the proper screw driver and they will come out, tight as hell.

Once they are off shaft slides out, o rings are on the shaft.

Yeah, I wanted to kick myself in the face for not realizing how to get to them once I actually gave it a good look...

Anyway, I got them all taken apart. The little screws weren't that hard. I used my drill with the #2 screwdriver bit on a high-torque setting and they broke loose pretty easily. Made sure I put them back together with lock-tite too.

The passenger side forward bearing on the IMRC was seized up, so I soaked it cup of motor oil for an hour or so, and it freed right up. Just happened to have the right o-rings for the shafts, too. The old o-rings were very brittle and actually broke when I tried to remove them from the shaft.

Got everything all put together, and it seems to be running well. I took it out for a few minutes and flogged it a bit, and it feels like it's gained back some of the power it had lost in the top end. I sprayed all around the intake and couldn't find any more leaks either, so I'm hoping I'm good. When I pulled back into the driveway though, the idle started surging up and down like it does occasionally. Usually goes away if I put it in neutral though. Haven't really done much research to track that one down yet...

Glad you got it running.
If the bearing eats crap let me know.
I still have a set, just have to get them out of the extra runners I have without wrecking them.
My guess is its some standard bearing.

Mine did that to it was the IAC replaced it and no mo problems!

That was my first guess, but haven't gotten around to doing much research on it. I usually forget all about it between times that I drive it. I don't drive the 98 very much at all, and it doesn't always do it...

May 30, 2009 is when it hit 100k miles. It's at about 110k now. It would be much less if I hadn't had to drive it daily for a few months after I seized the engine in the 97...

Glad you got it running.

It seems to have freed up very well for now, but there's no guarantee it'll stay that way. If you'd be willing to attempt to remove them and get me some really good measurements, I'd appreciate it. I'll be pulling it all again sometime in the future when I do the Cobra intake, and I'll see how it's doing then, and would like to just replace it if I can. I would have liked to have done the Cobra intake now, but it just wasn't feasible right now. Plus, I've got a car show coming up on the 15th that I HAVE to go to, and I couldn't chance it not being ready...

I will try this afternoon to pop them out.

Is this for your 98?

You might want to delete them if it is, when the intake goes on....your sig says you have a 3k stall, and some gear.

Cobra intake, gear, stall, you might like it.

Yep, for the 98...

I've putting in some 4.10's pretty soon too, so that'll make it even more likely to work out alright, but I'm just not 100% sure I wanna do that...

I'll have to think on it some more...

I have 4.10s....wish I went 4.30.

As long as your thinking, I will give you more to think about :)

Outside of bearing is .628, 5/8 press??
ID is .312..5/16ths

Just short of .200 wide, sealed bearing.
Sure looks like a standard.
The ones I have look good, let me know if you want them.
Its off a cobra 96/98.
I would think it would be the same as a Mark.

Also....go higher on your stall ;)

Since you're offering, I'll take them. Want anything for them? Shipping?

Gonna be a while before I change the stall. I've had the tranny out like 5 times for various reasons and don't really feel like doing it again any time soon...

PM me your address I will send the good ones I have, not worried about shipping.
I am sure they will ship in a bubble wrap envelope for cheap.
I will tap the rest out this week.
Doubt I will ever use them, pretty sure I will be running deletes.
