how to remove stock stereo

Use the search function for the stereo install thread by LDM(username). Really good pics and details.

Search this forum a little then pull realy hard on the head unit! Seriously, pull the ashtray out, pull out the ashtray housing, unbolt the dual climate control module, pry gently on the top side of the upper vents and they will come out. Now the bolts holding the head unit will be exposed. If you cant figure it out from here...take it to an audio shop.

@hite337 i searched the forums an nothing came up.. i also tried pulling out the deck after removing the ashtray and lighter jack an after taking out every screw it still did not want to come out the A/C unit wanted to come out with it. so i quited while i was ahead to make sure i would not break somthing out of frustration in this texas heat any suggestions on what else i could do

... it still did not want to come out the A/C unit wanted to come out with it. ...

The radio and the AC controls (DATC) have to be removed from the dash together. Once you have them out of the dash, you can separate them.

the bigger the hammer you use

the faster and easier you can remove it.

Another way to gain access to the head unit would be to pull the dash out of the car and then you can get to the wiring from the back. But to do this you need to open the drivers side door so it may be too difficult.

Oh what the hell.... Why not drop the engine and go in through the firewall so you can leave the dash in place? Then the op will still have full door functionality without having to worry about squeaks and shakes if the dash does not go back in correctly?

Since he's been properly hazed already, I'll be the nice guy.

1. Pry carefully on the sides of the center vents above the stock head unit with a flathead screwdriver:

Vents will slide straight out like so:

2. remove ashtray and surround:

3. Remove the four bolts holding the head unit/climate control bracket in place. IIRC, it was an 8mm socket:

Just remembered you have a gen 2. Your ashtray/surround will come out a little differently, but by no means is it rocket science.
