How to remove console front trim panel ?

How do you remove the front trim panel on a gen 2 center console?
Workshop manual say's to pull up on it to release fastners. Do you pry out the section that is around the ashtray and pull from there ? Thank You for any help or advise.

That section? You open the ash tray, grab both sides of the trim, and pull it. It's just held in by clips.

Do you have to pull that section first to get the top section out? My message center buttons just below the 2 center vents have come loose and it looks like the bottom edge of the top section is tucked behind the top edge of the next section down.

On gen one, no. Should be the same on gen two but im not 100% on that

Gen II. Go from the top down. DO NOT pull on the bottom section till the other stuff has been taken off you'll need a Phillips head screw driver

Yeah be careful. I broke mine near the clip that holds it down farthest to the rear driver's side.
