Is there a tech article on removal of your catalytic converters?

I need to remove mine and put a "test pipe" on for an auto event. I have the SCT so no worries about the rear O2 sensors.

From what I can tell you have to actually cut them out. Can they be removed in my garage or do I need to take the 2002 LSE to a shop? It is the V8 btw.

You can try running around the car yelling "booga! Booga!" Maybe you can scare them off the exhaust. You do a good scare job, that "test pipe" will scare itself onto the exhaust too.

Or, you can take a more conventional approach and do it like everyone else does it... with wrenches... heat... and maybe even a cutting torch. Plasma works well... I like plasma.

That's really clever of you. How's that working out for you, being clever?

Wow, you must be really sad, old, grumpy senior. Did you not take your prune juice today? Sorry old man, as long as I have old dumb people who reply to posts with the sort of dribble you post, I don't have to even pop my hood.

Where you born stupid and boring or did you have to work on it?

I am very grumpy as a matter of fact. I am grumpy because of people such as yourself. Lazy, unmotivated young know it all punk types. Are you one of them?

So um.. what are you saying? That you're in the top 3% of today's youth who would rather get some old dumb person answer his question than get off his fat arse and go look for himself?

I too, now, am curious which old dumb LS owner will actually answer your question.

Don't know about the 'Old' and 'Dumb', but I've been there and the cats unbolt from the exhaust manifolds and the bottom ends are a slip-fit into the extension pipes.

I have stuff I'm putting off at present, because there's a foot of snow here in Detroit, and more falling every day this next week, and I've got too much engine stuff scattered around in the otherwise-open bay of my garage to be able to get the car inside.

if you dont want to sound like a nut, you can also lightly bang on the fender and any cats under there will scurry away quickly.

I can see Frogman chasing cats with the plasma cutter (here kitty kitty) and picking on kids with the sct.

what is the world coming too...sheeez

I love firing off the plasma torch in the air... it look so cool, and the fact that it can cut through metal like butter is a plus!

I see another new member has met Frogman... (Oh but wait.. he's been a member since July 2005 same month as Frogman ... that makes them.... ummmm... ummmm... well)

You guys with all the fun toys... make us poor boys sad... just cut the damn things off with a sawzall...

Really man! I felt ashamed of the fact that I was going to suggest renting a pipe cutting tool from AutoZone!:shifty:

I usually just start the car and the cats tend to run away, I've heard it doesn't work so well if they end up in the engine bay though:shifty:

I don't have any trouble with cats, but the chipmunks have taken part of my hood blanket to make a nest!

Monnieh. Rather than give you some smart and not always helpfull information or sarcastic comments like Frogman look in my pictures and I have uploaded a picture of the complete exploded view of the V8 exhaust system.

How does that help... tape the pictures to exhaust tubing on the car and hope the disappear?

Just cut the damn things out with a exhaust cutter from a auto parts store then get the spreader tool to open the new pipe up a bit so it slides over the other damn pipe.

Thats if you just dont feel like taking it in to a shop.

I will try to give some useful help, You would probably need to remove the front pipe from the car to be able to cut out the cat (probably need a torch to heat up the bolts so you dont break a stud and then really be up :q:q:q:qzels creek), once out you could cut out the cat. converter, then mount the pipe that was ahead of the cat back to the manifold, then you would need to be able to install/weld in new cats and probably need some exhaust piping to complete it. Or when cat is out, gutt the internals and reinstall them, but that brings on other issues. Either way, would be a PITA not being done in a shop????
