im sure this has been addressed before but ive searched for it a bunch of times and come up with nothing, other than random bits of people say you should replace them if you do this, or you should replace them if you do this. I was thinking about doing an engine build on a Teskid and wanted to know what exactly was brittle and how much it could stand. I've heard that its just as sturdy as a 2V, but ive also read that its no where close. Input please thanks.

as far as I know, the engine is about as durable as the 2v. But, that's not saying a whole lot... You're running on borrowed time with a blown 2v and 350-400 RWHP.

It shouldn't be hard to source manley rods from an 03-04 cobra which are good to about 600-700-ish HP, pick up a forged crank and forged pistons. Run ARP studs throughout (studs, not bolts). If you do that, you'll be set for a reliable 550-600 RWHP car and if you shop around, it shouldn't run you more than 1500 for the rotating assembly as I described. HP/HV oil pump, heads (look for Mach 1/03-04 cobra heads; tumble-port), high cap oil pan, comp cams and the like would obviously all be extra. Then you're issue will be your driveshaft and half shafts!

Pistons and rods are the weak link but the block is a sought after piece. Also depends on what way you plan on building your engine? Really stinks cause we have to pay if you want to change cams :(

I scan EBAY a lot looking for people parting out Cobra engines and heads hoping to get some exhaust cams on the cheap :D

I would be highly suprised if ford decided the put a less efficant head on their engine. Typically when new heads are introduced, they are BETTER, not worse. And the "C" heads did follow after the "B" heads.

From what i have read on B vs C heads: The B head ultimately out flows the C head at high rpm, but the C head has a better average flow, over a wider rpm, and is therefore more 'street' friendly. The C head also has more stuff available for it, as it is a more popular head. (Might have stronger spark plug threads too!)

You can always pick up Sean Hylands book on the Mod engines. He goes into depth on all the strengths and weaknesses of the various Mod parts.

I've seen turbo 97 Cobra with stock long block running 9's.

Patriot performance sells CNC's B heads (I believe they are B heads)... might be worth looking into...

B heads are great for FI application but they suck for N/A.
