so after I got off the track today, let her cool down, I was checking everything out under neath and noticed a cross member, bracket thing, only being held on by one bolt and moving freely. it was the one in the area behind the seats, about three feet long stamped steel, in the area where the exhaust bends. what is it for

dont worry, they only put that there for added weight, to slow the car and decrease mpg.
 
It's there to reduce NVH. Will you be able to tell the difference if you remove it? Probably not.

NVH.... Noise, Vibration and Harshness... It looks like its an important part.
 
Mine does not have one as the old exhaust hung too low. Dont think I could install one now since the new exhaust is also a little low. Couldnt say if there would be a differnce or not.
 
Mine was torn off long ago when me and a highway bump got in a fight.
