How do you rev your engine on a 04 LS?

OK you go throught the expense of adding on a cold air intake to your V8 LS and now want to show it off to your buddys without taking it out on the road.

With the throttle-by-wire system the car seems to be governed so that you cannot rev your engine up while in park. If you floor the pedal it will slowly reach about 2700 rpms but not fast enough to hear the new intake.

Does anyone know how to override this?

you can always turn off the advance trac and bust a couple of quick doughnuts for them

You can with a tuner... but reving without load is generally not a great idea.

yes you can wind up with spun bearings.
This is the first car I've owned where you can't rev the engine but this makes good since why not to do it.

You can not remove the P, N rev limiter in a Gen2, even with a custom tune.
OK, thanks for verifying that it is not recommended or even possible.

My buddys will just have to ride along to check it out, and no posibility of demonstrating the ad-on at local parking lot/street shows while the Mustangs and M5's sit there and make their noise (darn).

i guess the gen1's dont have the limiter because i have done this in park......
My gen1 certainly has the governor. Found out when I test drove the car. The salesmen got in and goes "listen to this big V8!" and tried to rev it... and it just stopped at 2k. I laughed, told him there was likely a rev limiter in P and/or N, and that a 3.9 is NOT a "big" V8. :p

1st gen do have a rev limiter, but since they are not TBW, the car will rev all the way to the limiter, the TBW cars still hav a rev limiter but they also will not just "rev up" when you punch the gas in N or P

IIRC the P/N rev limiter can be removed from the Gen1 cars with a custom tune...dont quote me on this one though.

both Gen1/Gen2 will only rev to 3000rpm in Park or Netural

On the Gen1 you can remove this feature using a custom tune with a SCT device.

Not unless you have removed it using a SCT custom tune.

both Gen1/Gen2 have a electronic rev limiter in P/N - this feature has nothing to do with the Throttle-by-wire on the Gen2.

i know they both have the rev limiter since i have owned both, i only mentioned the TBW because of the confusion between having a limit to how high you can rev your engine and not being able to rev it up at all

1st gen's dont have TBW so they can rev it up all day long BUT there is a limit to how high the engine will rev

the 2nd gen's with TBW wont even rev up fast to the limiter which is the "problem" the OP had not the rev limiter that was later talked about.
