How do you remove the pinstripe on the LS?

Be careful with what you wish for. The paint has most likely faded on the car and you most likely will a darker finish under the pinstripes and you may just find yourself putting the pinstripe back on.

I am sure Pete will jump in on this one.

I bought my 01 LS back in 05 and that was the very first thing that I did when I got it home. Depending on the condition of the pin stripe, you should be able just pull it off. That's what I was able to do. You can also use a heat gun to to get it started and soften it up as you pull it. Then I used I think goo gone or something of that nature to get rid of the adhesive left behind. There are other products that you can buy at you local automotive store that will do the job too. Hopes this helps.

I am guessing it is vinyl, not paint? If it is vinyl, a heat gun and a little mineral spirits on a rag will get it right off. The pin-striping on my 2005 is painted on, but I am pretty sure it was not from the factory that way.

painted on pinstriping

Actually some of the ls series did have painted on pinstripes. mine does. mine have the signature on the front fenders near the headlights. it was an option to have this done.

Vinyl pinstripes are generally a bitch unless they are new. Once they get old, they get brittle, and want to break off every inch or two. I would use a hairdryer and either a plastic razor blade or a driver's license. When I removed the dealer decals from my trunk lid, I just parked the car with the decals facing the sun. Left it for about an hour. Then started peeling with the driver's license until I could grab it with my fingers. Of course, make sure the vehicle is freshly washed before using a plastic razor blade/DL on your paint, and be careful not to scratch the surface.

Afterwards, I use kleen strip prep all or 3M adhesive remover to get rid of the residue. I apply the chemical to a microfiber towel, and wipe the surface.

some of it has flaked/wiped off. I used my finger nail on some of it and i think its painted on. a 3m rotating eraser didnt work but we didnt push real hard either.

BTW, can someone please tell a mod to change my name to "ChristianJS"

i dont post a whole lot because i havent decided which way to go with the car yet. It may be stock until i buy my wife a different car to drive, But i do lurk and read a lot. Thanks for the help

well, the auto shop that replaced my front bumper scratched the :q:q:q:q outta the driver side door so they are now repainting it and redoing the pin stripping all around so i guess ill just keep it

Never done it, but some remove painted on pinstripes with oven cleaner, as long as it's not under the clear. A web search will give you info on this. Tape stripes can be removed easily and quickly with an Astro Eraser. A big rubber wheel basically melts the stripe off without damaging the paint underneath.
