Biden vows to shield US steel industry by blocking Japanese merger and seeking new Chinese tariffs​


PITTSBURGH (AP) — President Joe Biden suggested to cheering, unionized steelworkers on Wednesday that his administration would thwart the acquisition of U.S. Steel by a Japanese company, and he called for a tripling of tariffs on Chinese steel, seeking to use trade policy to win over working-class votes in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

During a visit to the Pittsburgh headquarters of United Steelworkers, Biden said U.S. Steel “has been an iconic American company for more than a century and it should remain totally American.”

Administration officials are reviewing the proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel by Japan’s Nippon Steel, and Biden said last month he would oppose the deal, saying it was “vital for it to remain an American steel company that is domestically owned and operated.” -snip

-Inflation rate under Reagan in March of 1984 while he was running for a second term was 4.8

-Inflation rate under Biden in March of 2024 while he is running for a second term was 3.5



If 4.8 was good enough for Republicans under Reagan, then 3.5 is good enough too.

New Biden rule would make 4 million white-collar workers eligible for overtime pay​


The Biden administration on Tuesday announced a new rule that would make millions of white-collar workers newly eligible for overtime pay.

Starting July 1, the rule would increase the threshold at which executive, administrative and professional employees are exempt from overtime pay to $43,888 from the current $35,568. That change would make an additional 1 million workers eligible to receive time-and-a-half wages for each hour they put in beyond a 40-hour week.

On January 1, the threshold would rise further to $58,656, covering another 3 million workers. -snip

Putin's upset over this, weird coincidence that the majority of Republicans are upset as well.

But I suspect Republicans' months long blocking tactics will still have dire consequences for Ukraine. Putin's just waiting until November to see if Biden wins again. If Biden goes away, Putin knows US support (and money) for Ukraine will dry up shortly after.

And the truth (lie) that gas prices are going down is a misnomer too.

Biden is just dumping the last of the "winter" fuel blend. (That is typically loaded with alcohol). I'm certain that people all over the U.S. are noticing their mileage (mpg) drop.

Talk about some manipulated statistics. To be accurate on your part (above) you would have to compare Regan and Carter to Trump and Biden.

I would not consider 40 year old statistics a direct and fair comparison. Not without doing some deeper research.

There are too many variables to make an "off the cuff" comparison.

Either way... you are manipulating the numbers.

Violence erupting across the country at colleges where students are supposed to be educated, but instead are being "indoctrinated" by the radical left faculty (been going on for years but now reaching fruition). Antisemitism being loudly espoused by dumbass kids being egged on by professional agitators, openly chanting 'Death to America". Jewish students afraid to go onto campus. What has our glorious leader done? NOTHING. He has the bully pulpit and could go active in fighting this cancer, but chooses to ride the fence so as to not piss off one side of his party (the squad-led radical left) and lose a few votes. He won't even say "Don't"! (LOL). He is a gutless, spineless political animal whose policies are set by the Obama leftovers operating behind the curtain writing his cue cards.
Money for Ukraine, Money for Israel, but none for the Border. Even some of the Dem reps in the house are begging him to pick up his pen and do something.
He won't until his handlers allow him to do so. Maybe that will be their big "October Suprise" when they need a boost in votes. After all, the early voting will be done, so they don't have to worry about pissing off the open borders faction of Democrats as their votes will already be in.

There are a lot of working class folks in this country getting pretty angry about how things are unfolding.
