hello, i just ordered front rotors and semi-metallic pads from r1 concepts for $150 seemed like a good deal. i've never change brakes before but i do have the online manual how hard will it be for me to do this in a 2 day period or will i be better off taking it to the stealership and have do it for me? i would rather do it myself because i thought about painting the calipers like some of the members :D , but im afraid of bleeding the brake line and then not being able to stop. does anyone have picture how to? i will appreciate. thanks
 
You do not need to bleed the brakes or disassemble the calipers to replace pads and rotors. The job is straightforward, and can be made a bit easier if you have a cordless impact gun, but a cordless impact is by no means mandatory. Basic hand tools will get the job done. At 97k, my stock front rotors were pretty much shot, as were the cheap and squeaky 25k mile Pep Boys pads. Replaced with OEM Motorcraft and man...WHAT a nice difference. Better cold bite, less hot fade, zero noise...perfect.
 
Its not hard at all especially if you have common knowledge on changing brakes.

Since you don't the guide should help out allot but even better would be to find a friend that can help walk you through as you do it that way you can learn how to do it and get some hands on.
 
At the top of the page under TECH ARTICALS go down on the left to a great how to article by QUICK LS, Stainless Steel Brake line Installation in the Lincoln LS, there is a discussion on bleeding brake, take a look.
 
Pads and rotors are easy. If you got the slotted/drilled rotors, the hardest part is putting them on the right side.
 
Please see "Saturday Project" post from a couple days ago, it has some pictures. Also search for brake job info here, there is plenty.
The job is easy. The hardest part, and dirtiest, is cleaning the calipers, and brackets getting them ready for paint.
On a scale of 10, the mechanical aptitude needed for this is about a 3-4. pretty easy.
Like NYC said, make sure anything slotted, or cross drilled goes on the correct side.
By the way NYC LS8, your ride is looking might nice!
 
i use to have the semi metallic pads w/ my R1 rotors and the squeaked constantly. i had to switch up to ceramic posi-quiet pads. just fyi
 
thank you all for the feedback, i've looked over the tech articles and the job may not be as hard as i thought. now about selecting the the correct side for the rotors if they are not specified in the instrution i'll take a look at some of the pictures and put them the same way. today im getting the impact gun, and a torque wrench. i'll post pics of the procedure.

thanks for the info rickz, i called and upgraded the pads hopefully i dont have to her them squeak anymore.

hello guys the rotors and pad have arrive and i couldnt be happier. i have a few more questions. i went shopping and bought the brak-kleen brake parts cleaner bought the red can and the green one (non-chlorinated) and i dont know whats the difference i'll use the red one then the green, also got myself the disc brake quite grease and also bought the aerosol brak-kleen disc brake quiet which one will be best?? the aerosol is some sort of red glue stuff and its suppose to be water resistance has anyone use this before?
yesterday i painted the calipers smoke while mounted on the car didnt wanna take a chance bleeding the brakes. i'll post some pics later this afternoon.
 
so finally i did the brakes, painted the calipers while on the car to avoid bleeding the brakes. had to tried twice the first time this were the results

, the next day i took them off cleaned the pad clips, and voila, freaking awasome no noise what so ever, and they brake good too. and u guys were right pretty straigh forward took me almost to 3 hours including the cleaning, painting, changin rotors twice and putting it back. here are the very fist pics of my car in LVC. once i clean her up i'll post more.

looks good..... I think you'll find the spray stuff wears off a bit. I prefer the brush on kind better just because it does seem to last longer. I also bake any heat paint I use in the oven so as to let the paint adhere to the metal before it gets subjected to the kind of temps brakes can create But like I said, its looks good.
 
are the rotors on the right(correct) side?
My EBC rotors had markings on them, and they went on, opposite from yours. The angle of the slot is facing the other direction...just curious

i have radial or straight vanes and slotted rotors so they have to rotate foward i guess, these are r1 concept rotors if anyone have these is this how u installed? they feel good to me but it was my first time doing something like these.
 
this is a pik of my front ones but i went downstairs to check on the rear ones so i could let you know for sure and oddly enough the slots are heading in the opposite direction. i had someone do them for me and i haven't had any problems w/ them. hope i haven't just jinxed myself

Well, I checked mine as well, and they are on per EBC's spec's, and apearantly so are yours...different manufacturers...go figure.
Sorry if that gave anyone a coronary....:)
 
LOL - I had to smile when I was looking through this. When I started putting on my rotors from R1, I scratched my head wondering which one went on which side.

R1 puts a sticker on their rotors for which side it goes on. At least my front rotors did when I got them.
