I need to remove all the chrome off my LS, but how?

I talked to a body shop about painting over the front and rear bumper chrome trim but he said the oils in the plastics will end up making the paint flake off after 6 months or so.

I saw that post where the guy took pin stripping and covered the chrome on his windows, seems like a great idea and I'm going to try it.

But what about the bumper areas? also, that area on the face of the trunk. How can I replace these areas?

hmm i would love to do that to my car too but yea the crome would probobly mess up the paint after a while... if anyone got ideas please share!

If prepped properly the paint will not come off of the chrome pieces. The prep done by the body shop will cost you more than the actual painting.

if you buy the LSE body kit you remove the chrome on the front and back bumper. Also if someone who had a sport model that converted to the LSE kit wants to sell you their sport bumpers that would do it too. I dont know how good painting would look, you would still have the outline of the chrome moldings.

I took my license plate surround to a paint shop and had them paint it to match. That was 9 months ago and there have been no problems. No paint chipping or fading. I don't see how that chrome is any different from the chrome on your bumpers. Cost me $50. If it's done right with the prep work you shouldn't have any problems.

Interesting. Maybe the guy at the body shop just didnt wanna bother with it because it was such a small job?

i took mine to a body shop and he didnt say that there would be any problems about the trim on the bumpers, but he did say that there was nothing he could do about the trim on the windows. BS; he could sand and primer them, so he probably just didnt want to take the time to do it

I am going to do the pin stripping thing to remove the chrome form the windows. Then, I guess I will either have the bumper and front bumper painted or just buy the lse kit.

Maybe we should talk about your chrome. I want all the chrome I can get. Give me a list of what you have to offer. Maybe we can swap pieces - that would make it easier for you to have yours painted. I have a Silver Frost '03 LS Sport.

thats not true. your bofy shop is wrong. thats basically saying that all us people that have taken out grills and sirround and had them painted, that they should be chipping. i have had no problems. I think you should go to another shop. Mine has had no problem prepping anything ibring them. my grill and surround were both 40 a piece, including prep and paint.
