Im not looking to shoot fast out of the hole Im not really a drag car, Think I'll be ok with 3.73's or 4.10's without a higher stall or are efforts wasted without a higher stall? I just need it to be a lil faster on the highway, dont really care from a dead stop since I already have traction issues anyways.

I'd say gears and a matched stall are very worthwhile!

I'm going with 4.30's and later on a 3500 rpm stall, but thats all a matter of personal preference.

well I have no clue what gears are in it now, Im certain there is a traclok in there since I leave 2 nice thick roast marks at 60 Im crusing in the 2500 to 2750 range. I dont think it has a stock stall in it as well, since the rpms kick up to about 2800 before moving. its pita trying to roll at idle. haha

If you want to be a faster on the highways but don't care about out of the hole, go with 3.55 or 3.73, but definately not with 4.10's. The 4.10 guys enjoy their gears, and think they're the best in the world, but they are 'hole' gears. No matter what any of them say, they might work for their cruising and short bursts on the highway, but they're not cruising gears. It's not hard to wax them on the highway with 3.55's or 3.73's. My vote, is no higher than 3.73, with what you're describing that you're after.

Sounds like you already have 4.10's or 4.30's.

Thats what I was thinking, Im in between 3.73's and 4.10's not really worried about the fuel consumption since I only drive 30 miles a week. just looking to improve get up and go.

Yep yep. Hey, to check to see what gears you have, jack the car up and get someone to get a good look at the driveshaft, mark the driveshaft, put trans in neutral, spin the tire, and count rotations. 4.10 will be 4.10 spins of driveshaft to 1 spin of tire.

3.55 will be 3.55 spins of driveshaft to 1 spin of tire. Etc

Easy to do. 3.55 and 3.73 and 4.10 and 4.30 are all far enough apart so that with any common sense you'll know for sure what you have.

Wow, good one ponies.

So yeah I didn't wanna create a thread for a stupid q, but it may apply here.

Last weekend a coworker got to talkin junk in the parking lot at like midnight, to the effect of "you can't burn rubber", so I did.

I held a brakestand for about 3 seconds and when I let go the wheel was turned a little to the left and the rear end of the car swung out to the right. Only left 1 skidmark, is this because the driveshaft only spins 1 tire?

Is a lsd when both tires spin?

This kid has an 87 rx-7 thats all souped up, and he was explaining that his only spun 1 tire before he put in gears, or did something to the differential.

if anything he has 3.73's i have rode in the car. you have to account for the really smaller tires he has for his hwy rpms. mafioso i would jack it up like they say to find out what you have.but i am betting 3.73 at most. Thanks for coming to our first official mark meet. you coming next week

To a point. Once your going fast enough that you cant downshift into second and a 3.55/3.73 car still can you have an advantage only until you get back into third.

And mafioso a higher stall converter will definitely get you off the line faster but wont do to much on the highway. The converter should be locked up in 3rd and 4th so the stall speed is irrelevant. And gears will make a difference with or without a converter.

Ok Here is the Skinney, I was semi wrong, I looked at verthing closely over the weekend.

I have to give it gas till almost 2500 to get the car moving and per the speedo at 60mph Im sitting at 2500-2750ish. I havent driven a stock Mark so I have no baseline.

Yes I am, Im not really building a powerhouse out of this one. I have a blk blk Gen1 I will take the knife to as soon as this one is where I want it to be, I need to finish the suspension goodies, and trunk.
