I'd like to get some idea how long it would take, in a well equiped shop,to do the following; on my 95 mk viii, change valve cover gaskets, oil filter adapter gasket, oxygen sensors (2),thermostat and hoses (4). Sadly my rotting body won't allow me to do these jobs. Had to go to the dealer, and they said 13 hours. I know their out to lunch with their rate; $112.00 per hour, so I wonder if 13 hours makes sense. With all the knowledge that you guys have,I will get piece of mind or fire to question them. Thanks for allyour imput. TONYyyy

That's why you should wait for honest Bruce. 1/2 the money and twice the stories !

I just paid my mechanic $553 to do the valve cover gaskets, s-belt, coolant system flush, new custom sleeved upper radiator and bypass hoses, new thermostat, lower radiator to thermostat and overflow to thermostat hoses. I provided hoses, sleeves and fittings, thermostat, o-ring, new Motorcraft ignition coils (the others were oil soaked) and I did the tune-up the week before with NGK Laser Iridium plugs. O2 sensors look like they'd be a PITA, considering where they are located. But I would sure as heck do some asking around and try not to succomb to the dealership's evil ways. Those folks are outa their minds. Really.

had to do it

Good ole Bruce was going to do the job for me, but he's got to get the engine in his new white MK VIII. The leaks grew quite a lot, and I want to keep the new driveway as it is,not oil soaked. It's my wifes DD and untill it's fixed she's driving the CE. You can understand why I'm in a hurry to get it done. I've been doing my own work for over 40 years and it hurts to take it to the crooks. The dealers are like the casinos,I'll get screwed but at least I'll get something for the money. I was looking for an hourly figure to do the job. Twelve hours seems a little bit long. I know Bruce could do it quicker. Don't worry Bruce there will be more to do.

-change valve cover gaskets, Dont know
-oil filter adapter gasket, 30 min -1hr
-oxygen sensors, about 2-hours with the propor tools (dont half ass it, get the proper tool if your going to do it)
-thermostat and hoses, 2-4hours

Thats how long it took me in my drive way and I have most of the tools any one would need for those jobs.
