Hello all,

I'm hoping you can help me. I've been doing some searching on the forums and I think I've found the culprit. Here's the problem:

My AC is blowing hot air on the pass. side and warm air on the driver. everything I've found leads me to believe it's a problem with the Dual Climate Control Valve (DCCV). The only thing is that of all the postings on this issue, I haven't found any that mention it happening on an 04. Is this the same issue on the 04?

Also I saw a reference to a part number, but when I looked it up the parts place called it a heater control valve. Are they the same thing? AND, does anyone have the part number for the 04 valve and a picture (replacement instructions would be nice too)?

Thanks for all your help on this.

Tony

I had the DCCV problem on my 04. It was the same symptoms as yours. I think it happened at about 60K miles. It was fixed under warranty.

Any help with the part number? Images? Instructions? Does anyone know if this is the same as the heater control valve?

Thanks for the help so far.

Tony

The DCCV is the Dual Coolant Control Valve. The service manual does not list any "Heater Control Valve", but this is the purpose of the DCCV. The DCCV is at the passenger side of the radiator. Run the self test of the AC (Press OFF and PANEL at the same time then release and press AUTO.) You will probably get a code of 2797, 2798 (the one I had), 2799, or 2800. If you also get a code of 1265, ignore. AFAIK the 2004 and up don't have a cold air bypass door, but some (all?) of the controls in 2004 still expected it. My 2006 doesn't give that false code.

Of course, the service manual has procedures to determine if the failure is the DCCV, the wiring, or the control module, but the DCCV is known to fail much more often than any of the other causes.

Thanks for the help Joe. The diagrams, instructions and part number from the workshop manual were exactly what I was looking for. Turns out that the on-line parts store I found it at (for $99) had the FoMoCo part number on it and it matched exactly. I'm curious about the AC self test you were talking about. Your instructions were to press the Off and Panel buttons at the same time (I assume the panel button is the one that redirects the air flow between the console, foot and defrost), release and then press the Auto button. The only thing that happens for me is that the system goes into auto mode, blowing hot air at me. Am I doing something wrong? Is the car supposed to running or not (I've tried both with the same results)? Thanks again for your help.

Tony

That's what the 04 service manual says. I remember doing the self test, but I also remember that it didn't work just like the service manual said. I see that the 06 manual says the defrost switch instead of the panel switch. You might try that. I have an Auto Enginuity scan tool now and now use that to do the tests.

If you have a 2003-2006 LS with the heated/cooled seats, the DATC self test is different. I FINALLY found this out! It is not in the Helm manual.

Ignition needs to be on. Car can be running or not. Push the OFF and the DEFROST buttons at the same time. Then press the AUTO button. You are now in self test mode. Let it run and you should get all 8's and every light segment lighted if everything is good. Otherwise write down the numbers displayed. The trouble codes are listed in the Helm shop manual. Push any button to end the test..
