The trans in my 94 is quickly dieing, I'm going for a rebuild and want to up the stall speed of the converter. Can I get away with the stock gears for a little while with a new converter (3,200 to 3,400 stall) or will this cause driveability problems. I'm hopeing that the lock up function will help out, mileage is not a concern for me and I will get a new chip burnt once I get the gears done.

Thanks
Mark

what kind of problems do you mean.any stall even with gears will take away some of the grannyness of the mark. You can drive around without gears but the i would suggest a better trans cooler.Your convertor will be stalling alot and creating alot of heat.Heat will kill your tranny even if you did just built it.I would do it - goodluck

My friend had a 3200rpm stall converter for a long time with his stock 3.08 gears, no problems at all.

Heat is what I was concerend with but the lock up should help that problem along with a big trans cooler. Now the question is where I get the trans from, there are so many people claiming the build the best trans, any idears?

I've got the Precision Industries 3200 TC with 3.27 right now. I Have an SCT chip in it and reprogramed the shift points, it works great, I LOVE IT!!!!! You definitely have to get another cooler for it. My gas mileage dropped about 3 mpg, but it was worth it. As for the tranny rebuild, I have found it's best to find a small shop that only does trannys and let them do it. They tend to really now what's going on and don't want you coming back all the time with problems. I have done it with 3 trannys by 3 different places and every one of them were done very well. Just my experiences.

Good Luck!!
