High idle after replacing a few things

So I replaced all of the following:

coolant hoses
radiator
thermostat
water pump
refurb'd my alternator
spark plugs
spark plug wires

Now I have a high idle - around 1500 at startup to 1200 warmed up, and 1k when in drive.

I don't hear and vacuum leaks that are obvious. Any suggestions on where to check things?

The battery was out of it for over a week. I would hope the computer would've been reset.

I'm going to check the vaccum lines tomorrow and see if I find anything awry.

might have a leak in your intake tube.

well you took the tube off to change the right side plugs so if you didnt seat the rubber gasket on the throttle body correctly that might be your problem right there. very easy to do the tubes are a p.i.t.a to put back on right without screwing up the intake tube gasket.

Like they said try re setting the computer. I had the same problem after changing th TBS and I unhooked the battery for about a hour and it fixed that problem.

he said the battery was unhooked for a week if the computer hasnt reset in that time frame then something is really wrong!

I agree with Jamie on the tube gasket, it happens more than ya think. But a vacuum leak it probably is. Check everything and you could consider spraying some small amounts of starting fluid to locate the leak.

I used some electrical tape to secure the gasket to the intake tube. It's fitting snugly, and isn't rolling the gasket when attached.

I'm beginning to think my throttle may be sticking open a bit. When I manipulated the cable a little the idle went to normal... I'll have to investigate further.

try putting some lube on your throttle body mechanism where the cable and cruise cable attach to it. sometimes they can stick a little just before idle, cause the linkage to stay a hair away from the stop screw where your idle should be.

I lubricated the throttle body. and it helped a little - than i replaced the Throttle Position Sensor - that did the trick!

how did you like taking out the two phillips screws that hold that terd on!!!! they put enough locktite on those screws to hold a train in one spot on a track.

It was kind of a bitch. Luckily I had a #2 philips that gripped well enough - and I put my weight into it!
